We recently had the chance to connect with Susan M and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Susan, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I recently lost my best friend. I could only find a way to grieve, and it was writing and making songs. I made her a song. I will never know if she liked it but I truly believe she would’ve loved it and would’ve been so proud of me, more than I am.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Susan. People knows me as Susandungueo. I’m a venezuelan artist, based in Miami. I write songs and I’m a singer. It’s hard for me to show my vulnerability, so I do it through my music.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
The same person I am right now. I wanted to be an artist since I was little. I dreamed of being on stages. Later on I went to college and graduated from sports journalism, which I loved but I had no passion for it. Had to go back and asked my inner child what she wanted to be, and that’s when I started to chase those little girl’s dreams.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
When I realized I could channel all my pain into art. That’s when I stopped doubting myself.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
100% yes. My Social Media version might vary, I’m not 24/7 showing myself there. But my public version is so authentic.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’m definitely doing what I was born to do. You can feel it when you do it, the passion, the joy, the satisfaction.
