Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Florencia Rizzo of Miami

Florencia Rizzo shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Florencia, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
I think what’s most misunderstood about comedy—especially for women—is that people assume it’s the same playing field for everyone. The truth is, as women, the expectations are higher. We have to prove ourselves more, and it’s even harder to bring men into our audiences because there’s still this bias that comedy is a male space. Many don’t realize how much work it takes not just to write and perform, but to break through those barriers and build audiences who believe that laughter has no gender.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Florencia Rizzo. I’m an Argentine comedian, executive show producer, and co-host based in Miami, where I’ve been living since 2013. I’m also a mom of four, a dog mom, and have been married for 20 years—which means I’ve had plenty of material to work with!

What makes my comedy special is that it’s honest, relatable, and very much tied to real life—I speak to women, especially those 40+, who juggle independence, family, and the unexpected twists of everyday life. I’ve created and toured shows like RETOCADA and my latest, ¿Cuáles son las Chances?, which I’m currently presenting across Florida, New York, and soon in Europe and Latin America. Beyond the stage, I also co-host the podcast Uno por Semana, which dives into life, humor, and connection.

What I want people to know about my brand is that it’s about finding humor in the chaos—whether you’re a mom, a professional, or someone just trying to keep it together. Comedy for me isn’t only entertainment; it’s a way to build community, to connect people through laughter, and to challenge the idea that humor has a gender. Right now, I’m focused on expanding my shows internationally and collaborating with brands that share that same spirit of authenticity and joy.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My biggest teachers when it comes to work have been my parents. My dad, Miguel, is an engineer, and my mom, Graciela, is a notary and lawyer—both self-made professionals who built their success from immigrant families that came to Argentina from Italy and Spain. From them I learned discipline, resilience, and that nothing is handed to you—you build it yourself. That work ethic is what I carry with me on stage and in everything I do.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes—there were definitely moments I felt like giving up. In comedy, it’s not just about writing and performing; you also have to sell every ticket yourself, convince people to notice you, and live in the craziness of social media where you’re supposed to be funny, consistent, and available 24/7. And I didn’t start young—I started later, when most people would have thought it was ‘too late.’ That made it harder, but also gave me the perspective and grit to keep going. Every time I wanted to quit, I reminded myself that if I could raise four kids, I could also survive selling tickets online

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, definitely—what you see is what you get. The public version of me is the real me, just maybe with better lighting. I don’t really know how to separate the comedian from the person; it’s all the same. And if you ask my kids, they’ll tell you. I truly believe that if I don’t experience things I talk about they just don’t sound real, I cannot talk about something that has not gone through me.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Definitely what I was born to, it took me more than 40 years to finally do it but all the experiences in my life were totally necessary for me to be today on stage, no doubt about that.
