We recently had the chance to connect with Alexandra Bonner and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexandra , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
The path I walk is God’s plan, and God’s plan alone. Often, I find myself attempting to shape or light my own way, without His guidance. In those moments, I become lost and confused. For a time, I would compare my journey to that of others, not realizing that there is no specific speed I need to keep up with. I understand now that God’s timing is perfect; He knows exactly the pace I should be moving at and the path I am meant to follow.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey what’s up? My name is Alexandra, and I am a 17 year old aspiring director/ filmmaker who believes in the power of storytelling to inspire change, connect people, and celebrate diverse voices. addition to filmmaking, I’m also passionate about music—I sing, and I play the piano and guitar. I’m equally dedicated to track and field, where I’ve discovered a beautiful sense of community, teamwork, and mentorship. The friendships I’ve built and the support I’ve received from teammates and coaches have been truly uplifting.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
What breaks the bonds between people, and what ultimately mends them, is love. I believe this is true in both directions. To me, love is the most important feeling on Earth. I feel that we were all placed here to love one another and to find joy in the things we cherish. Yet, love can also be a scary and intimidating force that many of us are afraid to embrace or confront. As a result, some choose to shut themselves off from others, unintentionally sabotaging connections that might have been meant to endure. Despite this, love’s strength is undeniable—it has the power to unite us, giving us purpose and the motivation to thrive. Truly, love is a transformative and powerful force—both healing and empowering.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The greatest obstacle that has held me back in life is the fear of failure. Because of this fear, I have often passed up countless opportunities, convinced that they weren’t the right choices or that I wouldn’t succeed. As a result, I’ve suppressed many of my talents, constantly worried that I’m not taking the steps that will lead me toward success. However, on a recent trip to Los Angelos, I had read a sign that read “do not let fear decide your future”, so I will do my best to let go of this fear, for I will not let it control what I am capable of.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
A belief or project I am committed to, now matter how long it takes is achieving my dreams of becoming a director and filmmaker. filmmaking is more than just a career—it’s a calling, and God has definitely called me to this dream. So many people’s lives are impacted and even improved by the ability to use their imaginations, and I am excited to be able to play a part in bringing others joy through my work and the contribution to that of others. Filmmaking also has the power to inspire, change, connect people, and celebrate diverse voices. To add on, I want to pursue a career that involves doing something I love. I find it is very important to have a career that you enjoy doing, no matter how much money you make. I put mental health above all, so it is important to enjoy what you are doing, and enjoy the people you are surrounded with.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I could absolutely give everything my best, even if people weren’t praising me for it. To me, praise is not something that is always needed to motivate me, or to make me feel as if my work is good enough. I think it is important to not rely on receiving validation through others just to feel proud of your work. You should always put your best work forward, and always work to your true potential to prove to YOURSELF that you are able, and that the talent you possess is immeasurable, no matter how many people praise it.
