We recently had the chance to connect with Tee Recx and have shared our conversation below.
Tee, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, I’ve been experiencing immense joy in my relationship with Jesus. After spending time focused on worldly things, I’ve come to realize that those pursuits leave me unfulfilled. The true joy comes from knowing that my Lord and Savior died for my sins and rose on the third day, setting me free from the bondage of sin.
I’ve shifted from being lukewarm to wholeheartedly living for Him. Outside of work, I’m finding joy in serving others and being a vessel for His love. Whether it’s simply reaching out to those in need, each moment spent helping others deepens my faith and reinforces my purpose. I believe we all need a Savior, and I am passionate about sharing that message, doing God’s will rather than my own. This has filled my heart with joy and a renewed sense of purpose.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a pioneering figure in music podcasting, began my journey after working in radio hosting. I launched “The Live By Terrence Show” to provide a platform for individuals to share their talents without financial barriers, initially focusing on giving local voices a chance to be heard. After just four months of broadcasting, I received a collaboration opportunity with The Hype Magazine, which helped connect my podcast with mainstream entertainment and recognized as Goodpods’ Top 100 Entertainment Podcasts of All-Time.
I expanded my platform into The Live By Terrence Network, later rebranded as 2 Factor Media, where I’ve hosted notable guests like Warren G, Twista, Jelly Roll, Karlie Redd, and Tech N9ne via Digiwaxx while producing thousands of interviews and shows for various outlets. Recently, I have retired from the entertainment industry roles at The Hype Magazine, Digiwaxx, and Atlanta Muzic Industry. However, I remain with TMZ as a monthly commentator and am excited to launch Gulf Coast Music Radio with managing partner Kevin Lovejoy, serving the Gulf Coast areas of Foley, Gulf Shores, Orange Beach, AL, Panama City, and Pensacola, FL.
Additionally, I’m working with the Music-Performance Sports League on the Advisory Board. I have been recognized multiple times as a top entertainment industry contact by Makin’ It Magazine and was recognized as 2014 ReverbNation’s Top 3 DJs in the United States as well as Top 5 DJs Globally.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that has most shaped how I see myself is my connection with God and Jesus Christ. For a long time, I felt lost as a lukewarm Christian, struggling to understand my true identity and purpose. However, as I deepened my faith and commitment, I realized that my identity in Christ is foundational to my life.
This relationship has transformed me; it has guided me to embrace my kingdom identity with passion and dedication. I now recognize that through God’s love, grace, and guidance, I am not just a follower but a beloved child of the King. This understanding has given me strength, confidence, and a clear sense of direction, leading me to pursue a life that reflects my faith and the values I hold dear.
Ultimately, prioritizing my relationship with God and Jesus has become the cornerstone of my life, shaping my view of myself and my purpose in profound ways.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The defining wounds of my life are deeply intertwined with my struggle with addiction and losing my parents. For so long, I found myself living in sin, trapped in a cycle that pulled me further away from God and the person I wanted to be. My addiction created a massive chasm between me and my faith, leaving me feeling isolated, ashamed, and lost.
The most significant wound was the realization that my choices were not just affecting me; they were hurting my relationships with those I loved and, most importantly, my relationship with God. I felt a profound sense of betrayal toward my own beliefs and values, which added layers of guilt and despair to my struggle.
Healing began the moment I faced this reality through therapy. I had to confront my addiction head-on and acknowledge the pain it caused. That self-reflection was difficult but necessary. I sought forgiveness, first from God and then from myself. I learned to let go of the guilt that had become a suffocating weight, recognizing that healing was possible.
In this journey, professional help played a significant role. Engaging with counselors and support groups gave me practical tools to manage my addiction and navigate my emotions. They taught me to recognize triggers and to develop healthy coping mechanisms that replaced my old habits.
Ultimately, healing has become a continual process. I’ve learned to view my wounds as part of my narrative, rather than definitions of who I am. Each day presents a new opportunity for growth, and I strive to lead a life that reflects the love and grace I’ve found in my relationship with God. Through this journey, I’m discovering a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper connection to my faith, guiding me toward a brighter path.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, the public version of me is indeed the real me, but it’s just one facet of who I am. In my circles, those who are closer to me witness my frustrations, flaws, and the everyday struggles I face. While I strive to present an authentic version of myself publicly, it’s in the private moments with friends and family that my deeper emotions and vulnerabilities come to the surface. We all have layers, and I think it’s important to embrace both the strengths and the imperfections that make us human.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I retired tomorrow, I believe my colleagues would miss my genuine care and non-motive approach to helping and serving them the most. It’s not just about the services I provide; it’s about the empathy and commitment I bring every day, and that’s what I think they would feel the most in my absence.
