We recently had the chance to connect with Coach D and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Coach , thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Recent moments I feel most proud about is my business website relaunch and adding new services and programs to DW Training. I’ve been a business owner for 5 years and felt it was time to elevate and bring more awareness to DW Training . I’ve also started a new program DW Training After School which allows me to teach elementary students the fundamentals of basketball. You are also now able to become a DW Elite Member through subscription to attend member only events and receive exclusive content.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Diamond Williams (Coach D), and I’m a Basketball Hall of Famer at Johnson & Wales University North Miami .
DW Training was founded in 2020 to honor my father, Dave Williams, who passed away in 2016. DW Training is a basketball skill development business. Our Training Philosophy focuses on Fundamentals First, Game IQ, and Mental Toughness.
DW Training provides one on one basketball training and group training. Since August 2025, DW training now has after school programs that allows elementary students to learn the game of basketball. Starting September 2025, athletes will be able to subscribe and become an DW Elite Member to receive exclusive drills, events, and giveaways.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents taught me the most about work. I grew up watching them approach challenges with discipline and resilience, and I learned the value of responsibility and follow-through. They showed me that hard work isn’t just about effort, but also about integrity and consistency. That foundation shapes how I approach my professional life today.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The defining wound of my life has been the death of my father. It left a deep void, and for a long time, I struggled with grief and the feeling of losing part of my foundation. Over time, I’ve healed by a lot of prayer, therapy, carrying his lessons with me, leaning on family for support, and finding meaning in honoring his memory through how I live my life . I also use his values as guidance for how I approach challenges with DW Training .
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
If you asked my closest friends what matters most to me, they would say God, family, and basketball—in that order. My faith grounds me, my family motivates me, and basketball pushes me to be disciplined, patient, and dedicated.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m training my clients in basketball. Seeing their growth, encouraging them, and sharing the game I love gives me a deep sense of fulfillment and peace. It reminds me why I love the game—it becomes more than just training; it’s a way to guide, inspire, and give back.
