Sebastian Toro of Downtown – Miami on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sebastian Toro. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Sebastian, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day usually start with a run — it helps me clear my mind and set the right energy for the day. After that, I make sure to get my drone batteries ready for upcoming flights, and then I sit down for a good breakfast to recharge before diving into work.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Sebastian, a filmmaker and professional FPV drone pilot specialized in live shows and large-scale events. Over the past few years, I’ve had the privilege of being part of world tours with artists like Luis Miguel and Shakira, flying in iconic venues such as the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, Estadio Monumental Jalisco, and Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
What makes my work unique is the ability to bring audiences a completely different perspective — creating immersive, dynamic shots that capture not just the performance, but the energy and atmosphere of the entire experience.
For me, flying is more than just piloting; it’s storytelling. Every flight is an opportunity to translate the magic of a live show into visuals that people can relive and connect with long after the concert is over. Right now, I’m focused on pushing the creative and technical limits of FPV in live entertainment, making every project bigger, bolder, and more memorable.”

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
One of the moments that really shaped how I see the world was when I first realized the power of capturing experiences through a lens. From early on, I understood that a photo or a video wasn’t just an image — it could tell a story, bring back emotions, and even transport people to a place they had never been. That perspective has stayed with me, and it’s what I bring into every flight today: the idea that visuals can make people feel part of something bigger.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes — there were moments when I almost gave up, especially early on when the path to making a living as a professional FPV pilot wasn’t clear at all. It’s a very competitive field, and there were times when I faced rejection or projects that didn’t work out as planned. But every setback reminded me why I started in the first place: my love for flying and for creating visuals that move people. Instead of quitting, I doubled down, improved my skills, and stayed consistent. Looking back, I’m grateful I didn’t give up, because those challenges shaped the resilience I rely on today

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies in the drone industry is the idea that flying is just about technology. People often assume that if you have the right gear, you can create powerful visuals — but the truth is, storytelling, precision, and creativity matter so much more. Technology is just the tool; what really sets the work apart is the vision behind the flight and the ability to translate a live experience into something unforgettable.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope the story people tell about me is that I helped change the way live shows were experienced. That I wasn’t just flying drones, but using them to capture energy, emotion, and atmosphere in a way that made people feel part of something bigger. More than anything, I want to be remembered as someone who was passionate, consistent, and fully committed to his craft — someone who inspired others to see the world from new perspectives.
