Today we’d like to introduce you to Sula Belle (DBA).
Sula, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I believe we are all born with purpose, and mine has always been to create, uplift, and inspire.
Raised between California, Florida, and the West Indies, I was shaped by family, faith, and diverse cultures. Gardening with my mother, listening to my father’s music, traveling, and writing poems nurtured my creativity. Literary voices like Toni Morrison, Langston Hughes, Ernest Gaines, Maya Angelou—whom I met at sixteen—alongside Nikki Giovanni, Natasha Trethewey, and Julia Alvarez, deepened my artistic vision and inspired me to write with authenticity and impact. My grandmother, Patricia Edwards, a writer and playwright who worked with Norman Lear and in TV & Film with Good Times, One Day at a Time, All That, and My Brother and Me, also instilled in me a love for storytelling and representation.
My artistry blossomed at Douglas Anderson School of the Arts and Florida A&M University, where I led environmental initiatives and partnered with organizations such as the National Wildlife Federation, Green Corps, and Jane Goodall Institute. Following my undergraduate years, NWF named me one of its “Top 50 Inspirations” in 2017. After moving to Miami, I published HERiseOn: A Poetry Anthology (2021) under my pen name Sula Belle—as a tribute to my Caribbean American and Afro Latin heritage, my childhood in nature, and my healing journey after losing my mother to breast cancer in 2007. Becoming a mother myself to two sons in 2019 and 2020 gave me a renewed appreciation for life, legacy and creativity.
That same year, I launched ContempoFlo LLC, creating vegan, essential oil–infused candles and body oils sold in local shops in Miami. I also had the opportunity to work in spa and wellness spaces such as NOBE Yoga in Miami Beach. I also explored modeling and brand work, collaborating with YSL, Barefoot Wine, L’Oréal, Pattern Beauty, Bacardi, Alexandre Birman, and more, while gaining experience in event planning, branding, and communications across tourism, wellness, and hospitality. My creative path extended into acting, with extra roles in Dawn of Retribution (2020) and Player, Ph’d (2022), and in Spring 2024, I modeled for Matrix and L’Oréal in Coconut Grove.
Sustainability is central to my mission. I promote conscious living through my own practices—but also through supporting small businesses, reducing waste, and recycling—and by highlighting events, initiatives, and conscious brands too. I am looking forward to the future- tune in for more creative projects, inspiring collabs and exciting events soon! The goal is all about making a positive impact in the community.
Recently I had the opportunity to have my work featured at the Viva La Negra “The Colors of Her Voice” art exhibit on August 30 in Ybor City, FL, at Marcolina’s Gallery. The featured poems, “Madre” and “See Her Golden,” and my book “HERiseOn, A Poetry Anthology,” were presented. The event uplifted Afro-Latin and Indigenousculture, celebrating togetherness, diversity, and the power of art to build community. You can find out more about Viva La Negra on IG: @quevivalanegra.
Current collaborations include HEMPIRE NYC CORP, a sustainable and eco fashion brand producing apparel from organic hemp and organic cotton that is based in New York but expanding worldwide. The brand are preparing to drop a new line of clothes and accessories, and will launch upcoming fashion events in spring 2026. You can find out more about HEMPIRE on IG: @hempireworldwide.
In Spring 2025, I founded Sula Belle Art LLC, a creative wellness and consulting brand dedicated to “Peace…Beauty…Art.” My company blends poetry, sustainable living, and visual storytelling while offering self-published books, wellness products, digital art, and guided content rooted in intentional living. I also support entrepreneurs and businesses with branding and strategy informed by data and design.
Currently working on my second poetry collection, my mission remains to inspire people—especially women of diverse backgrounds—to embrace their uniqueness, trust their voice, and pursue their dreams.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Life has given me challenges, but it has also given me purpose. Losing my mother at 16 was a wound that reshaped me, yet her memory remains my greatest source of strength. She is the reminder in my spirit to rise, to keep striving, and to be the best version of myself—not only for me, but for my two sons who her blood pumps through everyday, and who look to me as their anchor.
Along the way, I’ve discovered the power of healing and therapy, the importance of finding a healthy balance as a single mother in co-parenting between two sides of family, and the value of choosing wisely who I keep in my circle. Family, friends, and community who reinforce love, growth and generational wealth building for us make all the difference.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I wear many hats as a creative, entrepreneur, and advocate, but at the heart of everything I do is a mission to inspire, uplift, and create meaningful impact. I specialize in blending art, wellness, and strategy—whether through my acting and modeling, poetry, creative branding, or the wellness-centered products and services I offer. People often know me for my authenticity, my storytelling, and the way I bring both creativity and purpose into the spaces I enter.
Some of my proudest moments, aside from becoming a mother, have been milestones that reflect both personal achievement and community impact. Publishing my first poetry book was a dream realized, and having my eco-conscious creativity recognized by the National Wildlife Federation and Green Corps was an honor that affirmed the power of initiative and art projects to connect with people. Collaborating with major brands expanded my reach, non profit work granted me opportunities in documentaries, film, and radio, while beauty brands allowed me to be published in Sophisticate’s Black Hair Magazine, AFIYA Magazine, and compete in Miss African Roots Cultural Pageant, but I’m equally proud of the grassroots work I’ve led—whether winning past grant awards from the Siemens Group and Jane Goodall Institute, promoting voter registration during elections, spreading awareness of Afro Latin and Indigenous American issues, or earlier efforts petitioning for progress on solar energy and medical cannabis in Florida.
What sets me apart is the way I weave together creativity, advocacy, and healing into everything I do. My work isn’t just about building a business or a brand—it’s about sparking conversations, inspiring self-love, and reminding people that they have the power to shape their own narrative and the future. My journey, my experiences, and my values all influence my work, and I believe that authenticity and heart are what truly resonate with people.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Finding a mentor or building a strong network is about being intentional, authentic, and curious. For me, it has always worked to start with people and spaces that align with my values and interests—whether that’s in wellness, the arts, sustainability, or entrepreneurship. I seek out those whose work I admire and who inspire me, and I approach them with respect, clear intentions, and a willingness to learn.
Networking isn’t just about what others can do for you—it’s about building genuine relationships where both sides can share knowledge, support, and encouragement. Volunteering, attending community events, joining workshops, or participating in professional organizations has also opened doors to meaningful connections.
Mentorship doesn’t always look formal. Sometimes it comes from a conversation, a shared project, or simply observing someone’s work ethic and values. One thing I’ve learned is to stay open, take initiative, and always bring your authentic self to the table—your perspective, your creativity, and your energy are what make you memorable and valuable in any network.
