Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Rizzo.
Lori, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got started cooking and entertaining for friends and family – when I became a single mom, I wanted to be there for my daughter and catered parties and did some daytime corporate drop-offs around her schedule. When she was a little older, I worked for a few catering and event planning companies and learned the ins and outs of the business.
Having a flair for luxury and design, I have done many tablescapes and holiday/party/theme decor in homes and estates as well as venues and office buildings.
I decided to go out on my own 10 years ago after realizing how my perfectionism wouldn’t allow for me to take direction from higher-ups when most of my events, I think out of the box and like to present displays innovatively.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I still had a lot to learn at every event – there are so many moving parts and pieces and so much coordination with vendors – your only as good as you can rely on them. I have learned to confirm every last detail. Check and triple check and think under pressure because something usually goes wrong… or shall I say, presents a challenge.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The single biggest thing is that I was the owner who deals with every single client. I maintain contact and discuss all details, ideas, changes and anything else regarding their event. I am available 24/7 on the phone and trust me my clients use that!
My customer service is unparalleled. We think out of the box for a theme for an event, how it is going to be executed and as far as the food – we will display it in a way that is not normally done by any hotels or other caterers. We use innovative vessels, lots of ribbons, flowers, height and interesting visuals – we strive for a striking presentation and when guests walk in and start photographing our stationary food tables we know we have done a superb job!
What were you like growing up?
I was a model and pageant winner – I had an outgoing personality and a flair for putting things together including myself. I had a lot of interests and they have always been around this area of decorating, cooking, entertaining, flea markets and collecting all kinds of antique glassware for my tablescapes.
