We recently had the chance to connect with Remy Marvely and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Remy, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ince breaker: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
What I’m being called to do now is step fully into my truth — without masks, without apologies. For a long time, I played it safe, hiding parts of myself out of fear of judgment, rejection, or failure. But now, something deeper is stirring — a call to share my voice, my story, my art, and my magic in a way that is unapologetically bold and radically honest.
I’m being called to lead from the heart, even when it shakes. To stand on the edge of the unknown, not as a victim of fear, but as a co-creator of something bigger than myself. I used to be afraid of being “too much” — too passionate, too sensitive, too different. Now I realize: that’s my power.
So, I’m answering the call — not because I’m no longer afraid, but because I’ve learned that my purpose is louder than my fear.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Rémy Marvely, a former international sommelier turned magician — and the founder of Black Glass Events, a company born from sharing my passion for wine and entertainment
After years working in the world of fine wines, I felt a deeper calling — to bring people not just taste, but emotion, surprise, and wonder. That’s what led me to the world of magic, and eventually to launching Black Glass Events in the USA. Today, we specialize in immersive, elegant experiences for private and corporate events.
With Black Glass, we send mobile sommeliers and mixologists to events, creating unforgettable tasting experiences — and I often add my own personal touch by performing close-up magic or full-scale shows, sometimes even combining both worlds with IllusioVino, a one-of-a-kind wine & magic performance.
What makes us unique is this hybrid, sensory approach: we don’t just serve drinks or perform tricks — we create curated, high-end atmospheres that engage the senses, spark curiosity, and leave a lasting impression.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory of feeling powerful was the moment I decided to fully commit to my passions — to stop following the path others expected of me and start building a life around what I truly loved: wine, storytelling, and creating moments of wonder.
In 2016, I founded Black Glass Events to bring that vision to life. It was my way of blending my experience as a sommelier with my growing passion for magic — offering high-end, immersive experiences with mobile sommeliers, mixologists, and magical performances that awaken the senses and the imagination.
Just one year later, in 2017, I was diagnosed with cancer. Everything could have fallen apart. But instead, I leaned even harder into my dream. I told myself: “You created something beautiful — now fight for the chance to live it fully.”
That dedication became my fuel. Black Glass Events wasn’t just a business — it was a symbol of everything I believed in, everything I still had to give. My passion gave me purpose. And that purpose helped me heal.
So when I think about power, I don’t think of control or confidence. I think of that quiet but fierce decision to honor what lights you up inside — even when life gets dark. That choice saved my life. And it continues to guide everything I do today.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Two defining wounds have shaped me deeply.
The first was living a life that wasn’t mine for too long — following paths that looked “successful” on the outside but left me feeling empty inside. I was working internationally, climbing the ladder, but I had abandoned my passions: the love of wine, the joy of creating, the magic I felt as a child. That disconnection from myself became a slow, invisible wound — one that eventually led to burnout, and the realization that I had lost touch with my soul.
The second wound was far more visible: a cancer diagnosis in 2017. It stopped everything. And yet, in that rupture, I found clarity. I had already created Black Glass Events a year before, out of love for wine and magic — but the illness reminded me why I started. Life is fragile. You don’t wait to live it. You pour yourself into what matters.
Healing came through reconnection: with my purpose, my creativity, and my inner truth. I didn’t just treat the illness — I transformed my entire relationship with life. I brought my sommelier past and my magician soul together, crafting immersive experiences that celebrate being alive. I turned pain into performance. Struggle into story. And every time I share that magic with others — whether through a show, a glass of wine, or a moment of wonder — I heal a little more.
My wounds taught me something invaluable: you don’t escape your pain — you alchemize it. That’s where the real magic begins.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes. What you see in public is the real me — the energy, the passion, the joy, the vulnerability. I’ve lived through enough to know that I don’t want to wear masks anymore. After facing burnout, illness, and starting over, I made a conscious decision: if I was going to show up in the world, it would be as my full, unapologetic self.
Whether I’m on stage performing magic, hosting a wine experience, or speaking about my journey, I’m sharing something true. Of course, there are parts of me that stay private — we all have our sacred inner space — but the person I bring to the public is not a role. It’s a reflection. It’s me.
That alignment between who I am and what I do is the most precious thing I’ve built. And honestly, I think that’s what people feel when they come to a show or experience — it’s not just entertainment, it’s presence. And that’s where the real magic is.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people say that I was someone who dared to believe in the impossible — and who invited others to believe in it too.
That I didn’t just follow the rules or play it safe, but that I took risks to live fully, to turn pain into beauty, and to remind people that life is magic — if you choose to see it that way.
I hope they say, “He showed us that anything is possible. And he made us feel like it was worth trying.”
Because for me, that’s the point. Not perfection, not certainty — but the courage to dream, to fall, to get back up, and to keep creating anyway.
That’s the story I want to leave behind.
