Jennifer Weinberg shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Jennifer, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What makes you lose track of time—and find yourself again?
Traveling makes me lose track of time and find myself again. Experiencing a unique place, meeting new people, and delving into another culture helps me learn more about myself and about the world than anything else. Our society often assumes everyone else shares our same beliefs and values and that’s not the case, so it’s interesting to learn firsthand about other parts of the world, and what I’ve learned has certainly helped shape me as a person.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Jennifer Weinberg and I’m the co-founder and chair of Sustainable Supperclub. We host pop up dinners around Miami-Dade County to raise awareness regarding food waste while supporting nonprofit organizations in line with our mission. We hope that our events inspire people to make easy changes in their lives in order to reduce food waste.
Our next event is Fall Flavors at Rosemary’s Miami taking place on Thursday, October 9, featuring a 3-course dinner highlighting seasonal offerings, a wine pairing courtesy of Valdo Wines, and craft beer courtesy of The Tank Brewing Co. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Neighborhood Farms USA. Tickets are now available on Eventbrite.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My best friend in college, Megan, saw me clearly before I could see myself. She was the first person to give me any confidence. I considered her my personal cheerleader. I’ll always be grateful for that.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has taught me how to truly be happy during the good times and to really appreciate them, as well as to push through the bad times. Suffering not only gives you a thicker skin, but makes you naturally value and seek out experiences that bring you joy.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Years ago, the new CEO of the company I was working for said “Losers sit in traffic. Winners drive home in the dark.” That mentality puts work above everything including your family and your health. Especially in this day and age when we’re connected to emails and phones 24/7, I think it’s very important to carve out time for the things that matter on an emotional and personal level and to find a balance.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when I’m surrounded by animals or playing with animals, whether that’s watching a herd of elephants while on safari in Africa, on a ranch petting horses, or spending time with my dog niece, @roxyfoxyh
