Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Shannon Lee

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Shannon Lee. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Shannon, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What do you think others are secretly struggling with—but never say?
I believe many people are silently struggling to admit whether they’re truly happy within themselves. In a society that glorifies success, it’s easy to disguise true emotions behind constant achievement. Hustle culture encourages distraction—filling every moment with tasks, goals, and praise—making it difficult to pause and reflect. But true reflection and inner healing require stillness and alone time. I think a lot of people aren’t genuinely happy, but they’ve become skilled at masking it, even from themselves.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello! My name is Shannon Lee, and I’m a content creator who focuses primarily on motivational topics centered around spirituality, wellness, and personal development. I create videos for open-minded individuals who are willing to explore every aspect of life—including the uncomfortable moments we often avoid.

Before stepping fully into this space, and even now, I’ve spent all of my life working in the healthcare industry. It’s an environment that came with its fair share of challenges, but those experiences have shaped me in meaningful ways. They’ve also fueled one of my life’s purposes: to share messages that uplift, heal, and inspire others.

What makes my platform unique is the depth of personal experiences I bring to my work. I’ve spent the past year in deep introspection, taking time to recharge and grow. Now, I’m returning with fresh perspective and powerful life lessons that I believe will help others heal, reflect, and evolve too.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I was always an overachiever. I was naturally bright, and academics were where I thrived. I was praised for my intelligence, collected awards, and even skipped the 8th grade. By the time I was 17, I had graduated high school while completing a nursing program, passed my nursing boards, and was already in my first semester of college.

But with all of that success came a belief that I had to be “perfect” all the time. Perfectionism slowly became an enemy to my growth as I entered adulthood.

I became a hyper-independent woman who constantly felt the need to overachieve and exceed expectations. While ambition isn’t a bad thing, the anxiety it created was overwhelming.

What I no longer believe today is that perfection is the standard. Though releasing it is an ongoing process, I’ve come to realize that perfection isn’t necessary—especially when I’m being called to live out many different purposes in life.

I no longer feel the need to meet unrealistic standards, especially those set by society!

What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
I used to believe that success was the ultimate source of happiness—but after experiencing a massive change during a personal wilderness period, I realized that success alone can’t teach the most important life lessons. It’s in discomfort and solitude where real growth begins.

I stopped using success as a measure of my happiness, because if I continued down that path, I knew I’d never feel truly fulfilled.

That season of solitude helped me understand that only I have the power to make myself happy. I began to focus more on gratitude and slowly let go of the high-achiever mentality—something I never imagined doing five years ago.

Today, I believe peace and inner calm are far more powerful than praise and awards.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Smart people—myself included (and yes, I do consider myself smart, lol)—often tie our self-worth too tightly to our achievements and networks we have. We get caught up in material success and the hustle mentality, as if it’s written into our DNA. And honestly, I believe that is the real issue.

We’re so focused on striving and accomplishing that we rarely take time to slow down and truly soul-search. I personally struggled with simply being—with slowing down, living in the moment, and detaching from constant doing. And I know many others like me do too.

What we really need is to pause, reflect, and just live—not for accomplishments or applause, but for ourselves. That’s where inner peace and true happiness begin.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
More than anything, I pray my legacy shifts the focus away from me and toward the message I leave behind.

I want to leave something that truly made a difference—something that helped others believe in themselves, and most importantly, believe in faith again.

I hope people say that my journey gave them the strength to face their own challenges and inspired them to keep going!
