We recently had the chance to connect with Eliane Rochebois and have shared our conversation below.
Eliane, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
People often think a swimwear brand is just about chasing trends or catering to one type of body, but that couldn’t be further from what we do at Benatti Beachwear. Our focus is on creating pieces for both women and men that make all body types feel confident and celebrated. Another misconception is that beautiful swimwear can’t be made responsibly, we prove that it can. We choose high-quality fabrics that last, work with trusted local suppliers, and produce here in Miami to keep our process ethical and reduce waste. What we do goes far beyond selling swimsuits; it’s about crafting something that respects the wearer, honors diversity, and is made to be loved for seasons to come.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Eliane, the head designer and seamstress at Benatti Beachwear, a Miami-based brand I create alongside my daughter, Thanne. Although I practiced law in Brazil, my true passion has always been sewing and fashion design—a love I’ve nurtured since my teenage years. With over 20 years in the industry, I’ve learned that truly exceptional swimwear starts with selecting the right fabrics, working with trusted suppliers, and applying meticulous craftsmanship. At Benatti, we design for both women and men, blending timeless elegance with the fresh, modern perspective Thanne brings to the brand. Every piece is made here in Miami, carrying not just the look of the Miami style, but the care, precision, and authenticity found only in a slow-fashion, women-owned business. Right now, we’re expanding our solid-color bestsellers and introducing new textures that keep our collections fresh while staying true to our vision.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
One moment that truly shaped how I see the world was leaving my career as a lawyer in Brazil to start over in a completely different country and industry. It was both terrifying and liberating. I had to rebuild from scratch—learning a new language, adapting to a new culture, and proving myself all over again. That experience taught me resilience, the value of taking risks for what you love, and the importance of creating something meaningful with your own hands. It’s why every piece we make at Benatti Beachwear carries more than just style, it carry the courage to start anew and the belief that passion can completely transform your path.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
No, giving up has never crossed my mind, but I’d be lying if I said it’s been easy. This year, especially, has tested every business owner I know. Rising costs, unpredictable market trends, and the constant pressure to stay relevant in a crowded industry can be overwhelming. For us, it means working even harder to maintain the quality and craftsmanship our clients expect while adapting to changes in how people shop and what they’re looking for. But challenges also push you to be more creative, resourceful, and determined. For me, it’s a reminder that passion isn’t just about loving what you do, it’s about having the grit to keep going when things get tough.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies in the swimwear industry is that it’s easy to start a brand and succeed quickly. Social media can make it look effortless, post a few pretty photos, find a factory, and suddenly you’re “in business.” The truth is, building a reputable brand takes years of experience, trusted supplier relationships, and an unwavering commitment to quality. Another myth is that you can compete on price alone; in reality, if you’re committed to craftsmanship, ethical production, and premium fabrics, you can’t—and shouldn’t—race to the bottom. At Benatti Beachwear, we focus on delivering pieces that are worth investing in, because they’re made to look and feel exceptional for seasons to come.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What do you understand deeply that most people don’t?
What I understand deeply, and I think many people don’t, is that true happiness in this business doesn’t come from competing with others or chasing trends, but from creating something meaningful and authentic. It’s easy to get caught up in the race to be the biggest or the fastest, but that kind of competition often leads to burnout and losing sight of why you started. For me, and Benatti Beachwear, happiness comes from the joy of craftsmanship, the connection with our clientelle, and the satisfaction of producing pieces that make people feel confident and comfortable. When you focus on that, rather than on competing, success becomes a natural byproduct, not a constant struggle.
