An Inspired Chat with Giselle Sugerman of Miami

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Giselle Sugerman. Check out our conversation below.

Giselle, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
I’ve been devoted to this work for 30 years, and in that time, design has evolved from being my profession to my life’s calling. It’s never been just about creating beautiful spaces; it’s about creating energy, harmony, and a deep sense of belonging.

Over the decades, I’ve learned to listen beyond words — to hear what a client’s soul is asking for, even if they can’t articulate it themselves. Every project becomes a collaboration between their vision, my craft, and something higher that guides the creative process.

I’ve built my life and business on intention, integrity, and intuition. If I were hiring, I’d want someone who brings not just talent and experience, but presence — someone who can transform a house into a sanctuary, who understands that design can heal, inspire, and elevate how we live. That’s the energy I bring to every space I touch, and why I would hire me without hesitation

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Giselle Loor Sugerman, co-founder and principal of B+G Design, a Miami-based luxury interior design firm I’ve had the privilege of building alongside my husband, Brett Sugerman, for nearly 25 years. Our partnership is truly the heart of our brand — we complement each other’s strengths in a way that allows us to bring a balance of artistry, technical expertise, and vision to every project.

Brett’s architectural sensibility and my focus on emotional, experiential design come together to create interiors that are as functional as they are beautiful — spaces that tell a story, evoke feeling, and stand the test of time. Over the years, we’ve worked on homes from Miami to Aspen, New York, and Switzerland, blending our clients’ personal narratives with our signature aesthetic of warm, contemporary minimalism.

In addition to B+G Design, we’re thrilled to be launching Modulnova Miami with our partners Carlos Bustinza and Veronica Bennett. Modulnova is an Italian luxury brand specializing in kitchens, baths, living systems, and fully realized outdoor kitchen and living environments. This flagship showroom will showcase the finest in European craftsmanship and innovation while serving as a hub for design inspiration and collaboration here in Miami. Doors Open September 2025!

What makes our work unique is that it’s deeply personal. We don’t just design rooms — we create environments that enhance our clients’ lives, reflect their essence, and connect them to the things and people they love most.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
As a Latina woman from immigrant parents, working my way up in a highly competitive industry was not easy. Respect wasn’t handed to me — I had to earn it, moment by moment. I’ll never forget when I was 21 and closed a deal that brought in a huge commission. The owners of the company I worked for at the time were shocked — I had cracked the code.

In that moment, I realized something important: I didn’t just belong in the room, I had the ability to lead it. Back then, I felt I had so much to prove — to my family, to my peers, and to myself. That commission wasn’t just a number on paper; it was proof that perseverance, skill, and belief in yourself can break through any barrier. That was the day I stopped waiting for permission and started creating my own path.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
One of the defining wounds of my life was the end of my first marriage. I was married to the father of my children for almost 10 years, and when it didn’t work out, I felt like such a failure. I was only 21 when I got married, so young, and I hadn’t yet evolved into the woman I would become.

For a long time, I carried that sense of ‘I should have known better,’ but over time I realized that was part of my journey — that sometimes we have to live through certain chapters to grow into our fullest selves. My healing came from embracing who I was then, forgiving myself for what I didn’t know, and being grateful for the lessons and the beautiful family that came from that time.

That experience shaped my strength, deepened my empathy, and taught me that endings can be beginnings in disguise. Today, I see that chapter not as a failure, but as the foundation for the woman, mother, wife, and designer I am now.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that what truly matters to me is honesty, loyalty, authenticity, spirituality, and love. These are my compass in every part of life — in friendship, in family, in business, and in how I connect with the world.

I believe trust is built when people show up as they are, with no masks or pretenses. Loyalty means you stand by each other through both the good times and the storms. Authenticity is the thread that ties it all together — living and working in a way that’s aligned with your truth. Spirituality keeps me grounded and reminds me that we are all connected to something greater. And love is the energy that flows through it all — love for the people in my life, for the work I do, and for the spaces I create that nurture and inspire.

These values are non-negotiable for me. They shape how I build relationships, how I design spaces, and how I move through the world — keeping me aligned with my purpose and allowing me to create from a place of integrity and heart.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel the most peace when I’m in my husband’s arms and my boys are home from college. In those moments, everything feels whole. My home is my sanctuary — a place filled with love, laughter, and the comfort of knowing the people I cherish most are under one roof.

It’s not just the physical space, it’s the energy we’ve built together as a family. My home reflects who we are, and when it’s filled with the people I love, it becomes more than a house — it becomes my safe haven, my center, and my greatest source of peace.
