Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Juanita Sierra

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Juanita Sierra. Check out our conversation below.

Good morning Juanita , it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
One of the biggest misconceptions about my business is the difference between a decorator and an interior designer. Many people think our role is simply to make a space “look pretty,” but interior design goes far deeper than that.
Interior design is a professional career that requires formal training, technical knowledge, and a strong understanding of how people live and work within a space. We don’t just select colors and fabrics—we create spaces that are safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing. This involves thoughtful space planning, making sure layouts enhance everyday living, and working closely with architects, contractors, and engineers to bring a project to life.
A big part of our responsibility is ensuring wellness and safety. That means knowing building codes, regulations, and structural requirements so every design choice aligns with standards. We also prepare technical drawings, blueprints, and construction documents that guide the execution of our vision.
In short, interior design is about transforming spaces in a way that elevates both beauty and function, while keeping people’s lifestyle, health, and safety at the center of the process.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Juanita Sierra, founder and lead designer of Blu Ink Interiors. We are an interior design studio based in South Florida, but our work extends far beyond—we’ve had the privilege of completing projects across the Colorado, Georgia Caribbean, Colorado, and Colombia.
What makes our brand unique is our approach: we design with intention, blending beauty, functionality, and wellness. At Blu Ink Interiors, we embrace universal design and aging-in-place standards, ensuring that the spaces we create are not only stylish but also inclusive, accessible, and able to adapt to our clients’ needs over time. Whether it’s a modern kitchen, a serene bathroom, or a whole-home renovation, we design with the future in mind so our clients can enjoy their homes for many years to come.
Our expertise includes custom cabinetry for kitchens, bathrooms, closets, and entertainment spaces, as well as comprehensive renovation services. Right now, we are also expanding accessibility to design with the launch of the Blu Ink Interiors Design Club, a membership program that provides flexible design support through concierge services, e-design packages, and full-service memberships.
At the heart of our work is a passion for creating spaces that elevate everyday living—spaces that tell a story, reflect individuality, and remain functional and beautiful for years to come.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
What often breaks the bonds between people is a loss of trust and communication. Once trust has been damaged, it can be very difficult to restore, especially if communication isn’t present to bridge the gap.
What restores those bonds is a commitment to honesty, transparency, and open dialogue. In my work, I carry this philosophy into every project—we are very open about our process and make it a priority to communicate clearly with our clients. When challenges arise, instead of hiding them, we present solutions, discuss options, and move forward together. That level of trust and communication is what strengthens relationships, whether personal or professional.

When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
When I was sad or scared as a child, what always helped me was listening to loud music and coloring. It gave me a way to express what I was feeling without words and allowed me to focus on something creative and uplifting. To this day, those same outlets still help me clear my mind and find calm whenever life feels overwhelming.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, what you see is what you get. I’m goofy and a little sarcastic, but always respectful. Day to day I’m easygoing, but when it comes to work I’m passionate and intense. I get genuinely excited about the process, and people can feel that energy.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Definitely, I truly love what I do. Not every part of the process is glamorous, but the transformation, the before-and-after, and especially the client’s reaction when they see the final result; that’s what gives me the excitement and energy for every project.
