Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosemary.
Hi Rosemary, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Some people stumble into their calling. I had to work through a stutter to find mine, and I later built a career helping others speak with purpose.
Born in Cuba and raised in New York, I grew up with a stutter that began at age eight and lingered into my thirties. The stigma of stuttering was a big impetus to pursue a career in broadcast journalism and public relations. I wanted to get on the other side of it. This captures my approach to communication: not perfect, just honest, practiced, and clear.
Over time, I transformed what once held me back into the very reason I show up for my clients. My work as a communications coach is rooted in that lived experience. Few of us are taught how to communicate well. I teach clients to use their natural abilities to do it with purpose.
My background spans broadcasting, public relations, and corporate communications. I’ve worked with brands like AT&T, Toyota, Avon, Ericsson, Discovery, History Channel, and TelevisaUnivision, where I was VP of public relations and led communications strategy for the world’s largest Spanish-language media company.
But in 2019, I stepped away to start something that felt more aligned. I decided to transition to my first love: public speaking and transforming lives through clear and compelling communication. My firm, RMR Communications Consulting LLC, was born from that intention.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As I was getting traction with clients—most of them on-air personalities who struggled with public speaking in English, then came the pandemic in 2020. I thought my business—both speaking and coaching—was finished. As the world shifted to Zoom, so did I and I saw a huge opportunity. I created the ZoomScore™, a tool built around ten essentials for professional video meetings. I believe that competence and agility with virtual communications is necessary for success in business today and most people have not leveled up their knowledge. I found a niche for my business where I could make a big difference.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about RMR Communications Consulting LLC?
My decades as a corporate communications leader, MSNBC contributor and media personality informs my personalized approach to speaker coaching for senior executives, in English and Spanish. I use a wide array of techniques to help individuals and small teams refine their presentation skills and command the stage with confidence and impact. Thousands of individuals have benefitted from my in-person and online workshops on topics ranging from nonverbal signals, genderized communication, virtual executive presence, bridging cultural gaps, small talk and non-violent communication. I have trained dozens of candidates for elected office, entrepreneurs and corporate spokespersons on the art of media interviews.
I also give keynote speeches and serve as emcee and facilitator for high-level corporate events and conferences.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The most important lesson I have learned in my business is to cultivate close and lasting relationships with my clients. Most of my business is built on referrals and an impeccable reputation. Early on, I recognized that having a mailing list of 2,000 loyal followers who read my weekly blogposts is preferable to 10,000 more distant connections. My work makes sense and keeps me on top of my game because of the consistent feedback and dialogue I maintain with my clients and followers. That is priceless.
