Conversations with Sabrina Sosa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Sosa.

Hi Sabrina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I majored in Journalism & Mass Communication with a degree in Public Relations. I had planned to pursue my MBA after my bachelor’s after graduating. One thing I knew i never wanted to study and i absolutely hated was PSYCHOLOGY. I had a full ride on scholarships and the 2 required courses in psychology almost jeopardized my scholarship. I saw it as a hopeless and depressing career. But then my life turned around. I became a re-born Christian when I was 22. God gave me a different heart. I saw life in a whole new way. Relationships, people, hope, was renewed. I started working for His House CHildren’s Home, where they house foster and adoptive children. I went back to school for my master’s in psychology. Became a therapist for foster kids. Then for immigrant children crossing the boarders. Then worked for a private practice seeing everyone from homeless to 104 years old! Then I started my own practice. Then I got training in EMDR-this revolutionized my practice as now I’m able to offer the most effective evidenced-based trauma treatment. I LOVE my job. I have so much hope for every patient. I get excited about how much emotional work there is to do. I’m ready to help walk each person through meeting them where they’re at.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Struggles-when i worked with the bio parents (court-ordered) doing therapeutic visits for the foster children. Hard to see kids hearts’ break when parents didn’t show up. Hard to see how parents behaved during some of those sessions.
Admin at different job sites were challenging sometimes.
It was very challenging to do full time school and full time job and part-time internship when i was completing master’s. I had to calculate every moment-when I was going to wash my hair and even put gas in my car.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Restored Hope Counseling provides mental health therapeutic services to those who need restored hope, emotional healing, and healthy relationships. I have 15 years working with over 1,000 individuals of all ages. 12+ years of experience in foster care. I help patients with anxiety, depression, grief/loss, & problems in relationships. Individual counseling for women.

I offer EMDR. There are some therapists who have received this training, but do not end up using this tool. It’s the kind of tool that you have to keep using it to get good-a skill that has to be developed. I’m in the process of getting certified and should be by the end of 2025. This process requires you to see a certain amount of patients and put in a certain amount of hours of EMDR while being under the supervision of and EMDR consultant.
I also offer integration of Christian faith in therapeutic treatment when requested.

On another note, I’m currently in the process of becoming a licensed foster parent in the state of Florida and expecting to have a child by October.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in God and the plans He has for me. He leads me in my life. I became reborn 20 years ago and He has led me in my life since as I’ve been fully surrendered and following Him since. No regrets. Continued growth since. What I’ve learned:
“There’s no greater contentment that knowing you are exactly where you’re supposed to be, even when it’s difficult. ” -Sabrina
