Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatiana Sanchez.
Hi Tatiana, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My Journey to Alma Care Nannies .
My name is Tatiana, I’m 28 years old, and I’m originally from Medellín, Colombia. I moved to the United States in 2016. I first came to spend the summer in Rhode Island with my mother, who was already living there. But after just two weeks, I completely fell in love with the culture, the lifestyle, and the energy that young people had here. I felt inspired, full of ideas, and ready to pursue a better future — and that’s when I made the life-changing decision to stay.
When I told my mom I wanted to stay in the U.S., she was shocked. A few years earlier, she had offered to bring my sister and me here, but at that time, I wasn’t interested. Funny how life works!
Soon after deciding not to return to Colombia, I started working at a Colombian restaurant, taking orders at the bakery counter. Most of the staff spoke Spanish, but many of the customers didn’t — and I could barely count to ten in English! That experience motivated me to start learning English on my own, using what I heard at work to practice every day.
Two years later, I enrolled in an English course at Rhode Island College, where I finally learned how to hold a real conversation. Toward the end of that course, the school introduced us to various associate programs with the option to continue into a bachelor’s degree. Social Work immediately caught my attention, so I enrolled. Studying at an American college as an immigrant still learning the language was a huge challenge — but I enjoyed every step of the journey and proudly graduated two years later.
After graduation, I began working in the child care industry. I was hired as a residential counselor at a nonprofit group home for children. That’s where I fell in love with guiding, supporting, and advocating for youth. I worked with children from ages 1 to 16, many of whom had experienced significant trauma and behavioral challenges. This work revealed my deep passion for helping kids — especially those facing difficult circumstances. For me, helping children is a way of helping build a better future for humanity.
Not long after, I also began working one-on-one with children with disabilities through a large behavioral health company, providing in-home support.
After four years in Rhode Island, I felt it was time to move to Florida — a personal goal I had set early on. Living in a cold climate so far from my home country eventually took an emotional toll. I experienced a period of depression, but with the support of my mom and family, I kept going. Deep down, I knew I needed to make a change to continue growing, both personally and professionally.
In the spring of 2020, I packed my car, my clothes, my dreams, and my goals, and drove nearly 1,500 miles alone to start a new life in Miami. I left my jobs behind and stepped into the unknown, not knowing exactly what the future held. The jobs I qualified for were difficult to find in South Florida, and the salaries were much lower than in Rhode Island. But my heart was set on moving — so I did.
Shortly after settling in, I got a job as a waitress at an Italian restaurant on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach. But just two weeks later, COVID-19 cases exploded across the country, and the restaurant shut down.
Uncertain but still determined, I received a phone call from my former boss at the group home in Rhode Island. They desperately needed help, so I agreed to return temporarily. I made it clear I’d only stay for a few months before returning to Miami — and that’s exactly what I did.
Back in Miami, I asked myself, “What kind of job with children can I do now that schools and child care centers are closed?” The answer was clear: the kids are at home. And if kids are at home, parents need help — they need nannies and babysitters. That’s when I started offering babysitting services, and quickly found myself in high demand. During the pandemic, I was working up to 65 hours a week as a nanny.
I got to know families from all backgrounds, including high-profile and high-net-worth families in the Miami-Dade area. Word of mouth spread fast, and I was constantly being referred to new families.
In 2022, I decided to explore a different path and entered the medical field. I started as a front desk assistant at a primary care office. I enjoyed learning something new, and soon after, I was promoted to a HEDIS administrative role, where I handled medical records and worked closely with health insurance providers. Eventually, I was promoted again — this time to the corporate office overseeing 19 clinics.
I served as a HEDIS supervisor for over a year, but I always missed being around kids. I decided to pursue ABA therapy and completed the training — but in my heart, I knew I needed something more flexible, more exciting, and more aligned with my purpose.
Then came an incredible opportunity: I was hired by the family of a Major League Baseball player to be their full-time, traveling nanny. We traveled extensively across the U.S., and it became one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I helped raise a beautiful little girl and grew tremendously — as a woman, a professional, and a human being. They became like family.
While I was traveling, I continued to receive messages from new and former clients asking for help finding a nanny. Unfortunately, I had to turn many of them down due to my full-time commitment. One day, a friend said to me, “Tatiana, you’re running a business without even realizing it.” That was the moment everything clicked.
I had unintentionally built a reputation and created a network of trust — and it was time to take that to the next level.
That’s how Alma Care Nannies was born.
Alma Care is my heart and soul. It was created for families with busy lifestyles who need dependable, loving, and highly qualified nannies. Every experience I’ve had as a nanny is reflected in Alma Care. We understand families deeply, and we treat every placement as a unique, personal story.
As a former nanny and now the CEO of Alma Care, my mission is twofold: to help families find the perfect nanny based on their specific lifestyle and to help nannies find fulfilling, safe, and respectful jobs where they feel valued and supported.
Founded in 2024, Alma Care Nannies is already making a difference — not just by connecting families and nannies, but by creating long-lasting, positive relationships that truly support the growth and happiness of children.
This is just the beginning. ❤️
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not been smooth. When I decided to pursue entrepreneurship, I knew it wouldn’t be easy — but “easy” doesn’t even begin to describe the transformation you go through when building a business from the ground up. Launching and positioning a nanny agency has been a fascinating journey, especially in a market filled with countless child care options. One of the biggest challenges has been educating families about the value of the luxury services we provide.
As a young woman, I’ve been fortunate to have support from many people. Still, entrepreneurship can be incredibly difficult and, at times, a lonely path. One of the hardest truths I’ve learned is that your business is your responsibility alone — what you don’t do, no one else will do for you. There are also moments when I don’t have the answers, especially while juggling my personal life, my job, and my business. I’ve had to teach myself how to create balance so that frustration doesn’t overwhelm me.
Becoming an entrepreneur is about much more than just opening a business. The real challenge is keeping it alive and helping it grow — all while working, caring for your family, and trying to find the time, money, and energy to enjoy life. Sometimes, those things run low, and it becomes difficult to do what once came easily. But even with all the challenges, the growth and purpose this journey has given me make it all worth it.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up as the second child was fun and full of joy. I was a very active kid — always outdoors, making new friends, and doing the things that made my soul happy.
I’ve always been adventurous. From the age of five, I was constantly enrolled in sports. I tried many different activities, but the one that truly stole my heart was inline skating. My daily routine as a child was simple: go to school, then head straight to my skating lessons. Inline skating is still a big part of my life today — it’s my favorite thing to do, and it brings me peace and excitement all at once.
I’ve also been an animal lover for as long as I can remember. Over the years, I’ve had many pets — from dogs to even ferrets! As a child, my biggest dream was to become a veterinarian.
I’ve always been an outgoing, high-energy person — curious, friendly, and ready to learn, teach, and explore new experiences in life. I’m also deeply family-oriented. For me, family comes first — no matter what. That value has stayed with me through every chapter of my life. My family and my faith in God will always be my top priorities.
