Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexa Kuve.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I began my journey in the arts as a theater actress under the mentorship of Teresa María Rojas at Prometeo, Miami Dade College’s legendary theater program. Her dedication to the craft instilled in me a deep respect for the profession and shaped my artistic foundation. From there, I transitioned into television where my work reached audiences worldwide through roles in popular Telemundo productions and independent films.
In 2001, I founded Arca Images in Miami to create a platform for innovative, culturally rich theater that resonates locally and globally. Over the past two decades, I’ve produced more than 100 theatrical works, including world premieres by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz, and staged productions in Spain, France, and Mexico. As an actress, producer, and artistic director, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with extraordinary talents and bringing compelling stories to life.
Through Arca Images, I’ve not only championed the arts but also fostered cultural dialogue and growth in South Florida’s theater community. Theater has always been my home, and I continue to work tirelessly to elevate its impact on our community and beyond.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has certainly not been smooth, but it has been deeply rewarding. As an artist and producer, I’ve faced the challenges of securing funding, navigating shifting cultural priorities, and advocating for the essential role of the arts in our community. Today, we are confronted with one of the greatest challenges yet: the proposal to eliminate Miami-Dade’s Department of Cultural Affairs and place it under the Libraries Department.
This proposal undermines the vital role that the Department of Cultural Affairs plays as a national leader in supporting the arts community. If anything, it should be the other way around—literature is a cultural affair, and the arts deserve their own dedicated department to thrive. I respectfully urge Mayor Daniella Levine Cava and the commissioners to reconsider this decision, as it would significantly weaken the infrastructure that has made Miami a beacon for artistic innovation and cultural growth.
The arts are not just a luxury—they are the soul of our community. Let us protect and preserve the institutions that nurture creativity, empower artists, and enrich lives. This is a call to action for all who value the transformative power of culture in Miami-Dade.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the founder and Executive Producing and Artistic Director of Arca Images, a nonprofit organization dedicated to producing innovative, culturally rich theatrical works. At Arca, we are proud to bring to stage world premieres, particularly by Hispanic playwrights like Nilo Cruz, the first Latin American to win the Pulitzer Prize in Drama and Cuban-Spaniards Abel González Melo and Carlos Celdrán. Our productions have been performed not only in Miami but also on stages in Spain, France, and Mexico, highlighting our global reach.
What sets us apart is our commitment to excellence and collaboration with some of the most talented artists in the industry. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of producing more than 100 theatrical works, including plays, concerts, staged readings, and acting workshops. I’m especially proud of the six world premieres we’ve commissioned in the past four years, which demonstrate our unwavering dedication to fostering new voices and stories.
As an actress, I’ve appeared in theater, television, and film, with my TV work seen worldwide through popular productions on Telemundo. This dual role as an artist and producer allows me to bring a unique perspective to everything I do.
What drives me is my belief in the transformative power of the arts. Through Arca Images, I strive to create works that not only entertain but also inspire and provoke thought, contributing to the cultural fabric of our community and beyond.
Any big plans?
The future of Arca Images is rooted in growth, innovation, and advocacy for the arts. My plans include expanding our reach by producing more world premieres, collaborating with international artists, and continuing to bring culturally significant stories to diverse audiences. We are also working to strengthen our educational initiatives, such as acting workshops and staged readings, to nurture the next generation of talent.
One of my biggest priorities is to advocate for the preservation and support of Miami-Dade’s Department of Cultural Affairs, which is currently facing a critical challenge. I am committed to fighting for the resources and recognition that our artistic community deserves.
Looking forward, I hope to continue creating works that inspire, provoke, and elevate. The arts have always been my passion and my purpose, and I am excited to embrace new opportunities to contribute to the cultural richness of our community and beyond.
