Community Highlights: Meet Gregory Bonner of B1 Architect

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gregory Bonner.

Hi Gregory, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I received my Masters of Architecture from Tulane University in New Orleans. After working in Miami on big commercial projects like hotels, airports and hospitals, from the Florida keys to Atlanta, I transitioned to designing mainly residential projects. Opening my own architectural firm in 2012, specifically creating a niche in custom residential projects from Traditional to Modern. In the past 13 years, the firm has received awards for design and have been privileged to work with amazing clients, including athletes, musicians, and celebrities.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have always been challenges from starting my own firm, changes in market conditions, to creating my own style and brand. As a small business owner, everyday comes with its own unique obstacles. Self-confidence and hard work have helped me confront those challenges.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
B1 Architect LLC is a Palm Beach based architecture firm that focuses on creating thoughtful modern designs that work beautifully in connection with its surrounding areas. Working mainly on residential projects, we always aim to work with our clients to bring their visions to life in a creative, functional, and sensitive manner. What makes our unique firm different is our hands-on, personalized approach. We design as a team and are involved in every step of the design process- from the first sketch to the final walk- through. Our quality design stems from the great communication with our clients, which enables us to focus on specific details, which inevitably concludes in a superior design.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Always trust in your instincts! In the architectural profession, we are judged by our piers, who might not see the same vision. Being able to accept the ridicule and adapt, is paramount to being successful. There are many people involved in the process of creating architecture. From local architectural committees critiquing the work, to dealing with the building departments, engineers and codes, to builders and their sub consultants, being patient, calm and collected is essential to achieving success throughout the process.
