Today we’d like to introduce you to D’Shante Clarke.
Hi d’Shante, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story is rooted in family, faith, and the desire to create something lasting. I was born and raised in The Bahamas and moved to the US at 17 years old, wide-eyed, determined and full of vision. I’ve always been surrounded by creativity and construction as my older twin sister and brother have a background in architecture and interior design and run a successful construction company in the Bahamas. So growing up, I was exposed to beautiful spaces, detailed craftsmanship, and transforming a vision into a reality. That creative environment helped sharpen my eye for design and planted the seed for everything I do today.
Pines Vertical Blinds & Interior was originally founded by my aunt, and while small, has been a trusted business serving our local South Florida community for over 25 years. When she offered my husband and I the opportunity to take over a portion of the company, we knew we weren’t just stepping into a business, but we were joining a legacy.
With a background in engineering, project management, and years of experience in a corporate environment, I saw the potential to take the company to a whole new level. My husband and I took a leap of faith together. He leads the measurements, installations and customer experience, while I manage the business operations, marketing, and all the behind-the-scenes work. We recently rebranded with a modern aesthetic and added to the Pines Vertical legacy by streamlining our services, implementing a modern touch and growing organically with intention.
What started as a family-owned window treatment business has now evolved into a full-service brand that blends intention, craftsmanship and elevated design. As a Bahamian woman and first-generation entrepreneur, building something of our own in a new country with my children watching is one of my most esteemed accomplishments. I’m proud to be where we are today doing meaningful work that transforms our clients’ spaces.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The journey has definitely had its twists and turns, but it’s been deeply rewarding. One of the biggest challenges have been navigating the demands of motherhood, marriage, and entrepreneurship all at once. Raising “two under three” while running a business isn’t the easiest and there were moments of real exhaustion and self-doubt. Unfortunately, there is no manual or guide on how to juggle it all; especially when you’re trying to organically grow something meaningful without losing yourself in the process.
But through it all, our faith in God kept us grounded and drove us to continually provide quality products to our customers. We leaned on prayer, trusted His timing and believed that the vision placed in our hearts was there for a reason. A favorite scripture that has carried us through is “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, move from here to there and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” Matthew 17:20. It’s a reminder that even in our smallest moments, when you feel overwhelmed or uncertain, just a little faith can keep you going. Sometimes you may not have it all figured out, but we’ve learned that faith, vision and consistency are the foundation for building our business.
