Today we’d like to introduce you to Zsuzsa “Suzy” Szocsi Gibson.
Zsuzsa “Suzy”, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Ever since I was around ten years old, I’ve been fascinated by how spaces are created. I remember standing for hours watching the house being built next door—how the walls were formed, how the concrete was mixed. While most kids would’ve been bored, I asked endless questions because I truly loved it.
As I got older, I began transforming my own space every few months—rearranging furniture, adding new textures, and experimenting with decoration. I even helped friends and family redesign their homes, offering ideas on how to make rooms feel warmer, brighter, and more functional.
Eventually, I followed a long-time dream of living in a place full of sunshine, and in 2018 I moved to the United States. In 2020, during the height of the pandemic, I enrolled in an interior decorating school. That’s when I took the leap and turned my passion into something real.
After graduating, I founded Decoration by Mili, a creative studio focused on interior decorating and design. Now I help clients reimagine their homes—whether they need layout ideas, space planning, or visual concepts. I treat every project like it’s my own, because seeing people fall in love with their space is the greatest reward.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting Decoration by Mili felt natural—almost like everything in my life had been leading me toward it. In the beginning, the energy was exciting and everything moved quickly. But like with any new business, the real challenge came later: building a brand, finding consistent clients, and staying motivated through ups and downs.
The path hasn’t always been easy, but it has always been worth it. I’ve learned that success isn’t about speed—it’s about showing up every day with passion, creativity, and trust in your vision. That’s what keeps me going, and that’s the heart of Decoration by Mili.
As you know, we’re big fans of Decoration By Mili. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Decoration by Mili, what truly sets us apart is intuitive vision. I have a natural ability to see a space not just for what it is, but for what it could become—often within moments of speaking with a client. Even when someone has no clear idea of what they want, I can quickly envision the possibilities like snapshots in my mind. It’s as if the design appears in front of me, ready to come to life.
Whether it’s choosing the right wall to remove, finding the perfect style, or placing just the right furniture to transform a room’s feeling, I offer personalized solutions that are tailored to each client’s space and energy. I don’t just decorate—I translate emotions into form and flow.
I put my heart and soul into every project, treating each space as if it were my own home. That’s how I ensure high-quality, thoughtful results that make people feel truly connected to their environment. That’s the essence of Decoration By Mili—and that’s what I’m most proud of.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I absolutely love about Miami is the sunshine, the ocean, and the vibrant mix of cultures. It’s a city full of energy, diversity, and movement—and I find it inspiring to be surrounded by so many different nationalities, languages, and styles all in one place. The beach and the light make every day feel full of life.
At the same time, like every big city, Miami has its challenges. There are moments when people can be a bit rude or closed off, and there are parts of the city that feel less safe. But overall, I believe Miami is a beautiful and exciting place to live—especially if you bring your own kindness and creativity into it.
