Rising Stars: Meet Tory Lewis of Tuscaloosa, AL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tory Lewis.

Hi Tory, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Really my story starts with the school I came from, specifically from middle school. Around the summer between 7th and 8th grade, I was looking at various videos of producers making beats. Eventually my fascination became an inspiration and I decided to find a DAW that I could mess around with until I found my calling. I worked with many different DAWs, specifically Mixcraft and Garageband, until I finally saw FL Studio as the one that I could learn the most from. Since then I stuck with that and looked up as many beat making and beat tutorial videos until I came up with two of my most known genres, DreamTime and Trap-Bit. I’ve been going very strong since then.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
To be honest, music wise it hasn’t been too bad. It’s really just been a matter of consistency in a terms of keeping certain accounts alive in order to push my music the way I do. I’ve been job to job a lot but through it all I’ve been able to hold this new account down that I’ve made some years ago. So I’m definitely thankful about that.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m mainly a producer and I specialize in ambient sound along with 8 and 16 bit sounds. A lot of my influence came from old-school video games, so that’s where the influence with Trap-Bit came from. The more modern side of video games influenced the DreamTime type of sound where there’s more ambience and reverb throughout the melodies. I used to also do graphic art on the side, but I haven’t done much of that I admit. I will gladly take it back up though.

What are your plans for the future?
Well, I have a lot of single tracks set up for various distribution sites along with my SoundCloud. I actually have a beat tape on the way that will be coming soon that I’m very excited to release. I try to have some beat tapes in the vault that way I can just release them whenever I feel like it.
