Conversations with Caleb Jerome Morales

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb Jerome Morales.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Caleb Jerome Morales, and I am a recording artist, session musician, and singer-songwriter based in Miami, Florida.

I embarked upon my musical journey at four years old, when my mother began her twelve-year education program teaching me the piano. Along the way, I taught myself the guitar, bass, percussion, trombone, trumpet, and music production. I studied singing on Broadway with renowned vocal coach, Kevin Michael Murphy and have played in funk, alternative rock, country, symphonic, and worship bands.

Never one to rest on my laurels, I recently began studying a new instrument, the banjo, and plan to begin learning to DJ as a means of performing for my new project, Good Moraale.

Gluing my musical skills together, I studied international business, marketing, and entrepreneurship at the University of Florida, fortifying my skills in the Grocery industry.

Today, I am focused on two main musical projects as a member of The Gabriel Key Band, a country band led by rising act Gabriel Key, and Good Moraale, a solo project dedicated to guitar-forward house music.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My path has been totally non-linear, with plenty of bumps along the way that nearly drove me to quit music altogether. Years of debt, anxiety, depression, rejection, failure, and a painful falling out with my chief collaborator have been my confrontations with the shadow. Yet, as Carl Jung proclaims, integration of the shadow into one’s conscious self is essential to achieve the highest self-awareness and individuation.

The struggles tested, yet formed me, and their lessons have been abundant. These struggles have driven growth, resilience, and a demeanor poised for success. Reconciliation and forgiveness have allowed the bridges broken by struggle to be rebuilt, more fortified than ever, such as the bridge restored between my lost collaborator and me. A friendship renewed is fuel for a man.

While struggles will surely follow, I am battle tested, lean, and forceful, forging a triumphant path to the unique heights that a musician can reach.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
After weaving and winding through many different musical paths, this year, I have focused on launching a new electronic music project called Good Moraale, for which I am writing and co-producing lyrical, uplifting tracks.

While the golden era of electronic music is behind us, there does seem to be a resurgence of the sound, which illuminated an opportunity for me to make the pivot I’ve been dreaming of for seven years.

See, I have been a huge fan of Avicii since my youth. While I discovered him in high school when I was fully immersed in making Alternative Rock music, his crossover into the pop and folk worlds connected me to electronic music in a new and exciting way. As Avicii’s music evolved to be ever more songwriting-centric, I was drawn in more and more, ultimately culminating in my exploration of electronic music creation as early as 2015.

However, not long after that, the golden era of EDM had concluded, and in 2018, Avicii tragically took his own life. As a fan who turned to his music to uplift me through difficult times, I was devastated and wished to fill in the musical gap he left in the world.

It would take several years after his passing for me to turn back into making electronic music, releasing many songs in a broad variety of genres over that time period. But now with a rich, mature, and diverse catalogue, and a renewed public interest in electronic music, the conditions have aligned perfectly for a full transition into making my own EDM.

Beginning with my latest release, “I Swear to You,” Good Moraale songs offer a unique and human element that is rare in dance music – rich, deep lyrics exploring the interplay of both darkness and light. “I Swear to You” and the other Good Moraale tracks that are currently in the works share lyrical themes of struggle and overcoming, longing and realization, and error and penance.

My songs tell relatable stories that offer a realistic take of the human experience so often neglected in music, with much of contemporary western music leaning fully into abject darkness or blissful ignorance, complemented by highly danceable, energetic instrumentals reminiscent of a more optimistic time.

I am so proud of my work so far with Good Moraale and hope that it becomes the foundation of a great and memorable legacy.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
While I tend to collaborate with producers and engineers in Europe and Latin America, I’m always looking to connect with local studio owners, mentors, managers, and other industry people in South Florida. I am not signed to any labels or agencies, and thus am in the early stages of team building and generating reach. If anyone believes in my vision and is interested in collaborating or supporting, you may contact me via my website or social pages.

The best way to support me is to follow my socials, comment, stream my music, or just say hi. Good Moraale is effectively in its infancy, poised to grow into a force in electronic music, and I will eventually be looking for places to perform or have my music be played. If you have a small business that loves to support local music and/or love house music, please reach out.

Lastly, I do offer session services for recording artists and performing musical artists, so please check out my website for more info on session work.
