Today we’d like to introduce you to Arie J. Brooks.
Hi Arie J., thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Arie Joy, legally known as Shaska Brooks. In January 2025, God changed my name, marking the beginning of a new chapter in my life. As I await the legal transition, I walk boldly in the identity He’s given me — Arie Joy — the faith-driven creative behind COVERED, where Faith meets fashion. My journey began with a deep desire to live in purpose and walk boldly in my faith. As a debut author and visionary entrepreneur, I’ve always believed that when you align your plans with God’s will, He reveals the next steps. In 2025, I launched Covered, a Christian clothing line created to inspire, uplift, and point people back to Christ through fashion. With a heart for God and a passion for purpose, I sought divine direction for my next venture—and Covered was born.
Alongside launching my brand, I released my first book titled I AM THAT I AM: Unlocking God’s Promises: Activate His Power In Your Life. God placed it on my heart to write a book that encourages both believers and nonbelievers to believe, to speak life, and to walk in authority. As a believer, content creator, and influencer, this is a work that I am most proud of—not just as a milestone in business and leadership, but as a calling fulfilled.
This is more than just entrepreneurship. It’s a movement rooted in faith, identity, and impact. Covered and I AM THAT I AM are just the beginning of the work God is doing in and through me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With the launch of my new book and business venture, this marks the fourth time I’ve stepped out in faith to start something new. My very first business was a lash extension line called Visionary Minks. Shortly after, I founded Brooks Enterprises—a multifaceted brand that included makeup artistry, fashion, and another lash line. As a self-taught MUA, I found purpose in helping women feel beautiful. One of my most personal ventures was the clothing line created specifically for COVID survivors—an idea born from surviving COVID five times between 2021 – 2022.
Though each of those businesses were either short-lived or ultimately unsuccessful, I’ve never let failure define me. Instead, I believe the key to success is failure. The worst mistake anyone can make is giving up—and I’m not done trying. I believe the report of my Father. I know what God told me, and that’s what I’m holding onto until it comes to pass—because it will come to pass.
Adversity doesn’t intimidate me. It refines me. This journey is more than just building brands—it’s about building belief. As a debut author, content creator, and visionary entrepreneur, I’m proud of what’s unfolding. My newest venture, Covered, and my book I AM THAT I AM book, are not just business moves—they’re divine assignments. They represent resilience, obedience, and unwavering faith.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am currently working in the healthcare field as a Medical Communications Specialist, where I find deep fulfillment in helping others. Though I have aspirations of one day owning multimillion-dollar businesses and returning to school to earn my Associate of Science degree to further my career in healthcare, I remain grateful for where I am today. I don’t believe in coincidences—I believe I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be in this season of life.
What sets me apart is my heart. Whether in the marketplace, the workplace, or ministry, I am known for my kindness, compassion, and willingness to serve. Helping others isn’t just a responsibility—it’s my specialty and my passion.
I don’t pursue success with an agenda. My ultimate goal is to please God, be a blessing to others, and fulfill the purpose He’s placed on my life.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my most vivid childhood memories is from when I was six years old and had a severe case of chickenpox. It was an incredibly difficult time—I was in constant discomfort, and the itching felt unbearable. But what I remember most is the way my family cared for me. My grandmother, who was still alive at the time, would gently bathe me and soothe my skin with calamine lotion. My mother, my aunt, and my grandmother took turns comforting me, praying over me, and surrounding me with love.
What could have been just a painful childhood illness became something much more—a reflection of God’s love through the hands of my family. Their compassion, their prayers, and their gentle care turned that difficult season into one of the most cherished memories of my life. It taught me early on, at just six years old, what love, faith, and family truly look like.
