Today we’d like to introduce you to Lana Fokina.
Hi Lana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I became interested in photography about 15 years ago when I worked in the fashion industry in Russia, but I started doing it professionally in 2014 when I moved to America.
In the beginning, I tried all genres and styles and searched for my own. As a result, I concluded that I enjoyed shooting women and sometimes families the most.
Since I worked in Moscow for 10 years in the fashion industry, in particular with the clothing brand Ralph Lauren, it is easy and familiar for me to choose the style, decor, and details for the shoot. I really love it, so I always help my clients with their final look.
Another important aspect that has shaped my vision, style, and direction in photography is that my ancestors lived in Siberia and worked quite hard in those conditions of cold and eternal snow. Therefore, today I realize not only my but also their dream of an easier, more beautiful, and warm life. This is one of the reasons why my photographs radiate lightness, carelessness, and happiness. By understanding your genetic history, you can harness the enormous potential that comes with it.
Over the years of my activity, I have realized that the main thing is to be true to yourself, your views and what you love, and not blindly follow trends and fashion. At the same time, you need to be persistent and develop your faith in success, especially when you face challenges. I received the greatest rewards from life precisely when I showed faith and overcame difficulties.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think that this cannot be a smooth path. Otherwise, there will be no growth. I have learned to perceive bumps as an incentive for progress. I trust life and if I am stuck in some aspect, it immediately lets me know in the form of results or internal states that are unpleasant to me. Through this, I learn to adjust my approach. In any unpleasant situation, there is a grain for our progress.
We’ve been impressed with Lana Fokina Photography, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I specialize in photographing women and families. My style is more of a mix of lifestyle and beach fashion. I enjoy shooting both on location and in the studio. Before each shoot, I always have a consultation with the client over the phone, where we discuss the client’s wishes, ideas, locations, and style. For any client’s idea, I have a vision of where and how we can best implement it. If the client does not have a specific idea for the photo shoot, I help him by offering my own, which, in my opinion, will suit him well.
Since I love when photos are printed, I always offer my clients printed products such as albums, wall art, and other print options. I have made my favorite selection of albums and wall art whose design is unique and which you will not find on the mass market. For more than 10 years of work, I have tried many companies that do printing and have chosen the best ones, the quality of which I am confident in.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I think that I do not operate with such concepts as luck and bad luck. For me, there is work, persistence, and inner mood. The further development of events depends on this.
