Hi Cheryl, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a mom of 2, I love making their birthdays a special day. I have planned many birthday parties through the years & other fun events through their school years, especially high school graduation! When my youngest graduated high school, the idea to start a yard card business came to light! I purchased the standard school sponsored 24 x 24 Graduation yard sign. I was so proud to celebrate him & showcase this milestone! So, when he came home that evening, I asked him- did you see the sign? He said- no. We walked outside & he said- oh it’s small. I was surprised as he’s not one for attention or “blingy” type at all. I thought, I should have gotten a large yard sign. The google search began & led me down the path to start a yard card sign side business. I shared my business plan with my daughter & she said- I want to help! And Yard Card Chicks was launched! We love party decor, coordinating colors, themes & selecting the right pieces for the perfect look, so launching my yard card business seemed like a natural fit for me! I have 25 years of business experience in corporate America with either supporting almost every business function and working on various projects in marketing, accounting, ROI, operations & most importantly- customer experience & satisfaction!
Behind the scenes, I spend the time needed to create the perfect yard card display, by selecting the right inventory, with high quality signs & materials. On installation day, my car is loaded up & we take our time setting up to make sure the placement & the display is perfect! Our installs are more than just letters in the ground. We offer a custom design, full & tall yard card set & use the right tools to brace against the Florida wind gusts & rain! Sweat equity is part of every job, as the ground can be hard to work with. We’re prepared with gloves, a mallet & extra tools! We set-up each display as we would want if our own & want the set to be perfect!
The best part of this business is making someone’s day, seeing client’s smiles & being part of a special surprise for so many occasions!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As running a side business it was a challenge with launching as we only have so many hours in the day! With long days, determination & support from my family, the business launch & first year has been amazing! Calendar management is a must!

We specialize in a custom designed, full display yard card sign, not just letters. We are proud sponsors at 2 local elementary schools, working closely with the PTA teams. We are proud to have highly satisfied customers, a growing customer base & the support of the local community has been amazing! What sets us apart from others is our creative and full display custom yard card signs & we’re a mother/daughter team.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
We love the community events, activities & various special occasions to always celebrate, along with the diversity of our community & meeting new people. Of course, the weather is amazing, but also can be the least favorite element in this business with the heat and tropical storms!
