Today we’d like to introduce you to Tury.
Hi Tury, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am originally born and raised in Los Angeles to Puerto Rican and Cuban roots. I was brought up with some of the best salsa and jazz musicians to exist and I grew up playing percussion and touring with some of the best bands to come out of Cuba and Puerto Rico. My influence in music also comes from my family and the household I was raised in which consisted of my mothers family who is originally from the islands of Cuba and Puerto Rico and the east coast such as New York more specifically the Bronx and Harlem.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My life has definitely been a rollercoaster in terms of struggles and overcoming them. For the better part of my life my mother raised me alone and we constantly jumped around from apartment to apartment and we hustled by any means necessary to make ends meet, but without that perseverance and willing to fight it wouldn’t make me who I am today. All thanks to my mother who was strong and kept things together. No family is perfect but she raised me well by keeping me out of the troubles that surrounded me on a daily basis.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I rap and sing in Spanish and English. I originally started with percussion and was a drummer but then started to fall in love with beats and that’s when I secretly was producing for MF DOOM for a hot minute before he passed and eventually made my way into the Música Urbana scene where I’ve always been a fan first. The first album I was given when I was 5 years old was “El Abayarde” by Tego Calderón and from that day forward my life changed forever. I love producing and rapping it’s always been in my blood as has rhythm from my beginnings in salsa and Latin jazz. That mix gives me the flow and impeccable timing I possess.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am based in Miami Fl as of now and will be taking my home base to Puerto Rico soon! I plan on dropping a full project by 2026!
