Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauryn Young.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey in psychology is rooted in a deep commitment to understanding the intersection of neuroscience and mental health. I began my academic path at the University of South Carolina, where I earned her doctorate in psychology.
Recognizing the importance of neuroscience in shaping effective assessments and treatments, I pursued a school-neuropsychological post-doctoral fellowship, refining my expertise in cognitive and emotional evaluations.
My career has been shaped by diverse experiences across in-patient residential hospitals, private practice, neuropsychiatry clinics, and the public school system. These settings provided me with a comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges individuals and families face. Through these experiences, I developed a passion for working collaboratively with families, helping them navigate the complexities of psychological and educational support.
Today, I apply my extensive knowledge in Boca Raton and Delray Beach, Florida, where I run own a private practice specializing in psychological evaluations and therapy. Beyond my practice, I play a vital leadership role within the Palm Beach County School District as the psychology internship coordinator and lead school psychologist, providing essential guidance and consultation to my colleagues. I also share my expertise as an adjunct instructor at Nova Southeastern University and the University of South Carolina, mentoring the next generation of psychologists.
With a unique blend of clinical and educational expertise, I remain dedicated to delivering meaningful, neuroscience-informed assessments and interventions, ensuring that my clients receive the most effective, research-driven psychological care.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not. Hard work and dedication. The path I created, was very unorthodox! Meaning, not just doing the bear minimum. This path yielded a lot of stress but significant success. To say the least. Full time school district job, two adjunct professor position, started and created a very successful private practice, married 12 years and with 2 children( 3y and 1y).
However, the challenges I faced have shaped me into the dedicated psychologist I am today. The pursuit of advanced education, including my doctorate at the University of South Carolina and a post-doctoral fellowship in school neuro-psychology, required years of rigorous training, long hours, and a deep commitment to continuous learning.
Working across in-patient hospitals, private practice, neuro-psychiatry clinics, and public schools exposed me to a wide range of complex cases, each presenting unique obstacles. Whether it was navigating the emotional weight of working with individuals facing severe mental health challenges, advocating for families struggling to find the right support, or ensuring that students receive meaningful, school-based interventions, I encountered moments of uncertainty and immense responsibility.
My leadership role in the Palm Beach County School District as a psychology internship coordinator and lead school psychologist comes with its own set of challenges—ensuring that schools, educators, and fellow psychologists align with best practices while balancing the individual needs of students and their families.
Yet, through these challenges, I have gained resilience, insight, and a deep passion for making a difference. Every obstacle has been an opportunity for growth, pushing me to innovate, refine my skills, and become an even stronger advocate for those I serve. Today, I stand as a trusted expert in my field, using my unique blend of clinical and educational expertise to create meaningful change in the lives of my clients and the broader community.
