Today we’d like to introduce you to Nelkis Treto.
Hi Nelkis, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Yeah, so my journey with Flame Artistry Deluxe really started during a pretty chaotic time in my life. I had moved to Miami hoping to finish college and build something stable, but life had other plans. I was juggling work, school, and a lot of personal challenges—like financial instability, toxic relationships, and just trying to find my footing.
Art was always something I came back to, even when everything else felt out of control. I started experimenting with different mediums and fell in love with tufting—making custom rugs by hand. There was something super grounding about it. That’s when I realized I could actually turn this into something more.
So I started Flame Artistry Deluxe not just as a business, but as a space for creative freedom—for me and for people who vibe with unique, handcrafted pieces. Now, I sell custom rugs and I’m slowly building a brand that’s rooted in personal expression, healing, and honestly just doing what I love. It’s still growing, and so am I.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road, but I think that’s part of what makes the journey meaningful. One of the biggest struggles has been instability—especially when it comes to housing. I’ve had to move around a lot, sometimes bouncing between different homes, and that kind of constant relocation makes it hard to feel grounded or stay consistent with a business.
On top of that, I’ve dealt with financial pressure, emotional burnout, and trying to build something creative while also just surviving day to day. There were moments where I had to pause everything because life just felt overwhelming. But through it all, art kept pulling me back. Creating rugs became like a form of therapy, and every piece I make is a reminder that I’m still pushing forward—even when things feel uncertain.
So yeah, the road’s been rough, but it’s also made me more resilient, and more committed to turning this dream into something real no matter how big or small.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Flame Artistry Deluxe, I create hand-tufted custom rugs that blend bold visuals with a clean, eye-catching finish. I specialize in turning unique ideas into one-of-a-kind pieces—whether it’s a favorite character, a symbol, or something completely original. Each rug is handmade by me, and that personal touch is what makes every piece feel special.
For me, rug-making started as a creative outlet—something that gave me peace and purpose during chaotic times. Over time, it also became a way to support myself and build something of value. I’m proud of the balance I’ve found between doing something I genuinely enjoy and turning it into a growing business.
What sets me apart is the intention behind every piece—I may not be super public or flashy, but I put real effort into my craft, and I let the quality of the work speak for itself.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was always a mix of quiet and curious. I wasn’t the loudest in the room, but I was always observing, drawing, or off in my own little world. I loved creating things—whether it was sketching, crafting, or just making something out of nothing. I’ve always been a visual thinker, and I’d get super zoned in on details that most people overlooked.
Personality-wise, I’ve always been pretty independent and lowkey. I didn’t need a lot of noise around me—I just wanted space to create, think, and explore whatever I was into at the time. I was that kid who’d stay up late trying to perfect a drawing or rearrange my room to make it “feel right.” Creativity was just always a part of how I processed the world.
Looking back, it makes sense that I ended up doing something artistic and hands-on. It’s always been who I am, I just didn’t realize back then that it could also be my path.
