Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Filasky.
Hi Jacqueline, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
It all started when life flipped itself upside down in the most unexpected, beautiful way. My grandfather passed, and my grandmother—my heart, my world—was suddenly down here in Florida on her own. I had just wrapped up my lease in Brooklyn, and without overthinking it, I packed up everything and moved. I wanted to be there for her, and I don’t think I’ve ever made a better decision!
I didn’t move alone—I made the leap with my (very new!) boyfriend Jake, and we dove headfirst into this new life together. It was wild, it was chaotic, it was very full of love. I thought I’d continue working as an ABA therapist, but nothing was clicking. The jobs didn’t feel right, the energy was off. I felt lost… until Jake looked at me one day and said, “Why don’t you start something of your own? Something you actually love—like baking?”
And just like that, the switch flipped.
I became obsessed—in the best way. I threw myself into research. I studied every single law about cottage baking in Florida, read up on local government rules, dove deep into the world of Miami makers and market life. I wanted to build something intentional, legal, sustainable, and full of flavor and feeling. I didn’t just want to sell cookies—I wanted to share something that meant something to me!
And that’s how Le Petit Taureau was born. Out of love for my grandmother. Out of a wild leap of faith with my partner. Out of a deep desire to create joy, comfort, and connection through every single bake.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh, it’s definitely not been a smooth road—but it’s been so worth it! Starting a business from scratch, in a brand new city no less, is no small thing. I was trying to figure out unfamiliar laws, permits, local markets—everything—all while trying to build something that felt real and meaningful to me.
I had no clue what I was doing at my first couple of markets. I was just out there figuring it out as I went—learning how to promote and talk about a business, how to bake at scale, how to juggle the prep and the chaos of market day. I made a lot of mistakes. I tested and tweaked recipes nonstop and crossed my fingers that someone would stop by my table. It was overwhelming and messy and SUPER scary—but also super exciting!
Every bump in the road came with some kind of lesson—or a blessing. One night at the Pinecrest Holiday Market, I was struggling big time trying to get my lights to work. I was so flustered. And this wonderful woman came over and helped me without even blinking, and said, “Don’t worry. It takes a village.” And I swear, I live by that now. I say it to everyone I meet who’s just getting started, because it’s so true. It does take a village and I’m so grateful for the people who’ve been part of mine.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Le Petit Taureau?
Le Petit Taureau is my heart in baked form. I run a cottage bakery based here in South Florida, where everything is made in small batches with a whole lot of love—and zero seed oils. We specialize in seasonal bakes that are fun, nostalgic, a little bit fancy, and always made with intention. One week it’s strawberry shortcake crumble donuts, the next it’s rustic rosemary lemon loaves or Earl Grey madeleines. The menu is always changing, because I love creating based on what’s fresh, inspiring, and in season.
What sets us apart is how personal it all is. Every recipe has a story, every flavor combo has been tested a dozen times to get it just right. I pour myself into every detail—from the way something tastes to how it’s packaged, how it looks on a table, and the vibe it brings to someone’s day. People tell me that stopping by my market booth or opening up one of our bake boxes feels like a little experience, not just a snack—and that means everything to me.
I’m proud of the brand we’re building because it’s rooted in care. Care for ingredients, care for presentation, care for people. Whether it’s a mini cake tin so you can share with your friends, a cozy loaf for your morning toast, or a cookie that makes you close your eyes for a second when you take a bite—this brand is all about joy, comfort, and connection!
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
There are so many ways to support, collaborate, or simply step into the Le Petit Taureau world—and we truly love connecting with fellow makers, creatives, local businesses, and kind-hearted people who believe in the beauty of good food and genuine community!
Whether you’re hosting an event, planning a pop-up, curating gift boxes, or dreaming up something totally new—we’re always open to creative collaborations. We’ve partnered with markets, brands, and even Too Good To Go for those days we get a little carried away in the kitchen (it’s all part of the charm!).
Supporting us can be as simple as swinging by our booth, placing an order, tagging us in a post, or sending a kind message. You can reach us directly—call or text, find us on Instagram or Facebook, or send us a note through our website. However you like to connect, we’re all ears… and maybe a little flour-dusted!
