Today we’d like to introduce you to Chontelle Sewett
Hi Chontelle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My journey has been shaped by a mix of discipline, creativity, and a passion for self-expression. I grew up in karate from the age of six, representing Guyana internationally and earning several medals at world championships. The discipline and resilience I developed through the sport became the foundation for everything I pursued.
Beyond karate, I was heavily involved in volunteer work, from hosting a TV show for youth in media in Guyana to participating in UNICEF workshops. I also found my voice in poetry and the Guyana National Youth Parliament, experiences that strengthened my ability to communicate and connect with people.
As I evolved, I channeled my creativity into graphic design and later into makeup artistry, specifically SFX makeup. Both allowed me to push artistic boundaries and tell stories in unique ways. Through consistency and passion, I built a reputation that led to major opportunities, from brand collaborations to influencing on a global scale.
Today, with an approximate reach of 2.5 million monthly, I continue to blend art, storytelling, and innovation in everything I do. My journey is a testament to the power of discipline, creativity, and the willingness to embrace new challenges.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has shaped me into the person I am today.
In the early days, being self-taught in both graphic design and SFX makeup meant I had to work twice as hard to prove myself. I didn’t have formal training or industry connections, so I had to rely on my creativity, experimentation, and sheer determination to stand out. There were moments of doubt, but I embraced the process and kept pushing forward.
As an entrepreneur and influencer, navigating brand deals and pricing my worth was another challenge. There were times when I undervalued myself or had to fight to be taken seriously. Over time, I learned how to confidently negotiate and position myself in a way that truly reflected my value.
Growing up, balancing karate, academics, and volunteer work also required a lot of discipline. Competing on an international stage brought immense pressure, and there were moments of physical and mental exhaustion. But karate instilled a resilience in me that carried over into every aspect of my life.
Building a presence on social media was another uphill battle. The industry is constantly evolving, and staying relevant requires adaptability. There were times when content didn’t perform as expected or when I faced criticism, but I’ve learned to trust the process and stay true to my creative vision.
Despite the struggles, I wouldn’t change a thing. Every setback pushed me to work harder, refine my craft, and ultimately build the career I have today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a creative entrepreneur with a background in graphic design, SFX makeup, and content creation. I specialize in bringing bold, imaginative concepts to life, whether through visual design, transformative makeup, or storytelling on social media.
I’m best known for my SFX makeup work, where I push the boundaries of transformation and creativity. Since I’m self-taught, my approach is experimental—I love taking unconventional ideas and turning them into striking visuals. My ability to merge art, storytelling, and technical skill has allowed me to work with brands and create content that stands out.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the brand I’ve built—Chontelle Sewett isn’t just a name; it’s a direct reflection of me. Everything about my brand is me—my creativity, my passion, my vision. It’s still surreal to see how much my international reach has grown and that people recognize my work. Watching my brand evolve and resonate with others is something I never take for granted.
What sets me apart is my ability to blend multiple creative disciplines while staying true to my unique vision. I don’t just follow trends; I aim to create fresh, unexpected experiences that leave an impact. Whether it’s through my designs, makeup transformations, or digital content, I’m always pushing myself to innovate and stand out.
How do you think about luck?
I don’t think luck has been the driving force in my life or business—I’d say it’s been more about hard work, consistency, and putting myself in the right positions to create opportunities. That being said, there have been moments where timing and circumstances aligned in my favor, but I was only able to take advantage of those moments because I had already put in the work.
If I had to credit luck for anything, it would be the people I’ve crossed paths with—whether mentors, collaborators, or supporters who believed in me. But even then, I believe that when you put in the effort and stay true to your craft, the right people and opportunities naturally come your way.
On the flip side, I’ve had my share of setbacks and challenges that might seem like “bad luck,” but I see them more as lessons that pushed me to grow. Every obstacle has taught me something valuable, whether about business, self-worth, or resilience.
So while luck might play a role here and there, I believe that success is more about preparation, persistence, and having the courage to take risks.
