Daily Inspiration: Meet Javier Ponce

Today we’d like to introduce you to Javier Ponce

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in Guadalajara, Mexico. My dream was to become a professional soccer player, but while playing in the third division, I suffered an injury that took me off the field. While searching for a new path for my future, I discovered acting. I moved to Mexico City to study and, after graduating, I started working in Mexican telenovelas. One day, I decided to audition for films and series, and that’s when I landed the role that changed my life. It was a Netflix show called Madre Solo Hay Dos ( Daughter from another mother) where we filmed three seasons. From that moment on, I wanted to pursue another dream: working in the U.S. I had an audition for a series produced by Telemundo, which is now available on Disney+ called Sed de Venganza. I was fortunate to be part of the cast, and through this opportunity, I fulfilled my dream of working and living in the U.S. (Miami) while doing what I love.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course, it has been a difficult journey because I come from the bottom, which means I had no idea about the industry or any connections. I’ve had to knock on many doors, not all of which opened, and constantly seek opportunities. But the opportunities that did open have been very meaningful for both my life and my career.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a Mexican actor, and I have worked in series, films, and telenovelas. I have had the opportunity to collaborate with platforms such as Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, and Vix, as well as television networks like Televisa, Telemundo, and Imagen TV for Latin America.

It’s worth mentioning that before discovering my passion for acting, I played professional soccer in the third division for Chivas and Tecos.

I am proud that, despite how challenging it has been to get here, my passion for what I do has helped me navigate and overcome obstacles. I also feel grateful to have reached so many people with the series I did on Netflix, as it became one of the most-watched shows in many countries around the world.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I like the quality of life here. I felt very welcomed because there are many Latinos, which makes me feel at home. I really enjoy the mix of cultures.

What I don’t like is that I miss traditional Mexican food.
