Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Wind
Hi Eric, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Being a watch dealer and collector was not part of any “plan” for my professional career, but I am thrilled it is what I get to do each day. I went to Georgetown University to study international politics in The Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, then worked for a small consulting firm in DC before realizing that I wanted to learn more about business. I went to the University of Oxford in England for a Master of Business Administration degree and my job after graduating was with a small bioenergy startup in Florida. However, in the background of all that was that I was writing about vintage watches for a small blog as well as collecting them – truly a side hobby and passion. Gradually, my reputation grew in the space and I was recruited to join Christie’s as Vice President, Senior Specialist of Watches. By 2017, I decided to go off on my own and start Wind Vintage, a company dedicated to offering extraordinary and modern watches for sale.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always bumps on the road to building a business. The early days of Covid were tough and scary as it was unclear what would happen to the watch market and even shipping logistics and insurance were in question as the shipping companies were not collecting signatures from purchasers. Thankfully, by April 2020 the market began to pick up after a quiet March 2020. Hiring quality and trustworthy people is also always a challenge, but I am thankful we have a great team!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are known for offering extraordinary watches for sale, particularly vintage watches that are our passion. We want our clients to know that we strive to treat them as we would want to be treated and we try to offer exceptional watches that I would want to own.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
We love Palm Beach! It is a gem of a city with so many amenities and conveniences. It is a great place to raise a family. A challenge since fall 2024 has been the amount of traffic and congestion, which has been aggravated by all the local construction and the barges needing to have the bridges go up so frequently during the day. I do worry that the traffic will lead people to choose to live elsewhere if not addressed and mollified.
