Today we’d like to introduce you to Bernadette Bernard
Hi Bernadette, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Ever since I was a little girl—maybe five or six years old—I loved watching my mom cook. I would stand right next to her with my own little pot, pretending to cook alongside her. My aunt also had a big pot, and she would make food that everyone in the neighborhood came to buy. Seeing that growing up, food became a big part of my life.
By the time I was seven, I had already started cooking. I remember my grandmother always praising my mother, saying she was such a talented cook. That stuck with me. I knew from a young age that I wanted to have my own business, and opening this restaurant was a way to make that dream come true—not just for me, but for my grandmother as well. This restaurant is for my family, our traditions, and the love we put into every dish.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh, definitely not! Starting and running a restaurant is never easy. In the beginning, one of the biggest struggles was just getting the business off the ground—finding the right location, securing funding, and making sure everything was in place. It took a lot of hard work and sacrifice.
And of course, running a restaurant means long hours, unexpected setbacks, and learning how to manage everything from staffing to supply chain issues. But through it all, my passion for cooking and sharing my culture kept me going. Seeing people enjoy the food, hearing them say it reminds them of home or that they’ve never tasted anything like it before—that makes it all worth it.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
