Today we’d like to introduce you to Anais Nunez
Hi Anais, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started Rawness Beauty in my kitchen in 2018 because, as a hairstylist, I discovered that synthetic ingredients in hair products often caused adverse effects over time. I wanted to create a safer, more effective alternative using plant-based ingredients that are better for both people and the planet. Our mission is to provide affordable, high-quality, eco-friendly hair and skin care products while promoting sustainability through ethical sourcing and packaging. Rawness Beauty is my way of combining my passion for beauty with my commitment to health and environmental responsibility.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building Rawness Beauty has been a labor of love, but it hasn’t been a smooth ride. Every step—from product formulation to branding, marketing, and operations—has come with challenges that tested my resilience and dedication.
As the founder, I’ve done everything myself—from formulating products, designing labels, and building my website to handling customer service, marketing, and shipping. Unlike big brands with large teams, every decision and task has been on my shoulders.
Creating effective, plant-based formulations wasn’t as simple as mixing ingredients together. It required extensive research, testing, and trial-and-error to find the perfect balance between natural effectiveness, stability, and safety. Some formulas had to be revised multiple times to meet my standards. Finding the right manufacturer was a major milestone.
Instead of hiring professionals immediately, I built my own website and branding from scratch. Learning the technical side of e-commerce. Securing a brand creative designer has helped us elevate the brands appearance and attract more of our customers.
Finding the right suppliers for high-quality, ethically sourced ingredients while keeping products affordable was another hurdle. Sustainable packaging options were often expensive or required high order minimums, making it tough as a small business.
Without outside investment, every dollar had to be reinvested wisely. Scaling production while maintaining affordability and sustainability was (and still is) a challenge. Getting into retail stores and expanding distribution requires capital that isn’t always easy to secure.
Competing against bigger brands with huge marketing budgets meant I had to rely on organic growth—word of mouth, social media, and grassroots efforts—to build a loyal customer base. Creating engaging content and standing out in a saturated beauty market is an ongoing learning process.
From navigating legal requirements and certifications to understanding supply chain logistics and customer expectations, the journey has been full of steep learning curves. Every setback, whether a delayed shipment or a formula that needed tweaking, required problem-solving and adaptability.
Despite the challenges, Rawness Beauty is growing because of passion, persistence, and a clear mission—to provide clean, plant-based beauty products that are safe, effective, and eco-friendly. Every obstacle has made me more determined to succeed and more committed to my vision. The journey hasn’t been easy, but it’s been fulfilling, and I know the best is yet to come.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Rawness Beauty is a plant-based hair care brand that creates effective, eco-friendly hair and skin care products. The brand was founded to offer safer alternatives to synthetic ingredients, which can cause long-term damage. Rawness Beauty focuses on using high-quality plant-based ingredients and sustainable packaging. The company has an A+ rating by the Better Business Bureau and certified Leaping Bunny Approved. We actively support our community through initiatives like beach clean-ups. Our mission is to provide affordable, effective, and environmentally conscious beauty products. I am proud of Rawness Beauty because it represents my passion for healthy, plant-based beauty solutions while making a positive impact on people and the planet. My biggest accomplishment is building a brand that stays true to its mission of offering affordable, effective, and eco-friendly hair and skin care products.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
To find a mentor in the beauty industry, start by networking at industry events, join beauty entrepreneur groups, and engage on online. Look for professionals who align with your values and reach out with a genuine, concise message expressing admiration for their work and a specific question. Offer value in return, such as sharing their work or collaborating. Building relationships takes time, so be patient and persistent while staying open to learning from different sources, including books, podcasts, and online communities. These are all things that have worked for me.
