Inspiring Conversations with Christian Santos of In the Middle Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christian Santos

Hi Christian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
While struggling with issues of my familial issues as a teenager, I was exposed to many different therapeutic styles. While cycling through therapists, I eventually found one I connected with. I felt understood and seen, which propelled me into this field. I had many different experiences such as working in an addiction treatment rehabilitation, trauma-informed community mental health as well as working in private practice. Finally became the therapist I wished I had.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was not a smooth road; I had many struggles along the way such as overcoming my anxiety in running groups or taking my licensure exams. The impact of the covid pandemic shaped my approach to therapy as it expanded my ability to help others with the advent of telehealth.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about In the Middle Therapy?
In the Middle Therapy, focuses on working with mainly individuals but also relationships. The expertise is mainly in trauma-informed care such as with complex-ptsd, a wealth of experience with addiction, a kink-informed focus for those in that community, as well as an understanding of men’s mental health issues. One of the things that sets it apart up to 3 am sessions that many American expats overseas take advantage of. Therapy is mainly online, however at home visits are available. I am most proud of the results I have achieved with my client’s, as I work as hard as my clients do in hitting their therapy goals.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I have always loved learning and incorporating new things in my daily life. I love to experiment with things that I learn so I can test the limits of my creativity while also being practical. An example would be how creating new dishes in the kitchen led me to a greater sense of self-efficacy and independence. I enjoy problem solving in my practice, often times the “problem” is identifying how to guide the client to understand their patterns and modify them in a way that they resonate with.
