Today we’d like to introduce you to Danixa Lopez
Danixa, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began my career in public relations 30 years ago at The Communicators Group in Puerto Rico. After two years, I moved to Miami where I worked in different industries before landing my first job in the entertainment industry at WEA Latina, now Warner Music Latina. I continued to build my expertise in PR and entertainment at companies such as Telemundo, Telemundo Internacional, Perfect Image and The Roof Records.
Later, I worked independently before joining Santa Cruz Communications where I spent over 14 years leading and supporting national campaigns targeting the U.S. Hispanic market. As of January 2025, I’ve transitioned to independent public relations practice, and I’m very excited about this new chapter in my career.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Challenges and setbacks are a natural part of the business and life in general. There have been moments, like when a vendor doesn’t show up on time for an event, or when the original news angle for a campaign doesn’t resonate with the media as expected.
The key is to trust yourself and have confidence in your experience and expertise. It’s essential to be ready to pivot based on your strategic plan. While it’s important to stay positive and confident, always prepare for the worst-case scenario, just in case.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
After 25 years in public relations and collaborating with incredible partners across various industries, I’ve transitioned into being an independent public relations practitioner, offering my expertise directly to clients and agencies. I have extensive experience developing and executing PR campaigns for leading companies at the local, regional and national levels, with a focus on the U.S. Hispanic market.
A strong strategic foundation is at the heart of my work. I emphasize strategic planning and audience segmentation – two essential pillars of any successful campaign.
I provide PR services to companies and organizations across the following industries:
• Lifestyle
• Entertainment
• Music
• Nonprofit
• Environmental
• Book publishing
My specialties include:
• Strategic communications
• Media relations
• Community relations
• Influencer relations
• Event publicity
Additionally, I help business leaders and public figures elevate their presence and engagement within the media and the community.
Beyond my PR work, I also produce and host “La Otra Puerta Podcast,” a Spanish-language audio podcast that just launched its second season. It features women who have taken bold steps to achieve their dreams and reinvent their careers. I interview women who have successfully changed their career paths and provide tools and resources for women who are considering career transitions, new ventures, or personal growth opportunities.
Additionally, I launched and edit “Hispanic PR Update,” a monthly newsletter featuring industry insights, trends, and relevant content for Hispanic public relations professionals.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
While the Covid-19 crisis was a difficult time, I chose to focus on the valuable lessons it taught me – resilience and adaptability. It reinforced the importance of personal well-being, self-care, and maintaining a healthy work-life balance. I also learned to set realistic goals during uncertain times and embrace flexibility in an ever-changing work environment. These lessons continue to guide me today.
