Daily Inspiration: Meet Rafal Jan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rafal Jan

Hi Rafal, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Life’s a trip. A tale so ironically crafted, it had to be a dream. Be what may, fate decided it’s best I’m exposed to the challenges and rewards of an immigrant story. It has been the essence of my human experience since arriving in America on the 4th of July of 1998. I remember that night full of fireworks unknowing of the journey ahead. Transplanting to a foreign country at an early age could not have had a more profound impact on me as a human and artist. Struggling with identity and belonging in a place far from home, looking inward into the depths of my mind and imagination became a ritual of the purest self that ultimately gave me the confidence to express all that is on my mind and in my heart through my abstract work.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been the path necessary to arrive at this moment. That’s part of the journey, that constant ebb and flow. Patience and persistence tends to lead toward perseverance. But you have to ride that wave and feel everything along the way.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve chosen a life of abstract expression and reflection of what it means to be human in this age. It is the thread that connects us all. I’ve always loved exploring and leveraging various creative tools of the times to execute on the ideas and feelings that captivated my imagination. I’ve explored a range of mediums such as film and graphic design before discovering the beauty of textural art. That’s really what I’m most proud of, staying true to myself and exploring my depths fearlessly.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
The greatest support I can ever ask for is a moment of someone’s time. To absorb, observe and reflect. The impression of the audience is what gives the work its ultimate meaning and purpose.

I hope I can continue to find opportunities to share space with other artists and be inspired by their stories and work.
