Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelley B
Hi Chelley , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve wanted to be a model for as long as I can remember. I know it sounds cliché, but it’s true. As a kid, I would research modeling agencies like Barbizon, set up meetings, and have my parents take me—only to find out they required payment to join. My parents weren’t having it and told me real agencies don’t operate that way (they weren’t wrong!).
Modeling took a backseat for a while, but my passion reignited when I moved to Queens, NY, for college. One day, a photographer reached out and asked if I’d be interested in modeling. I thought, why not? and said yes. That one opportunity sparked something in me, and from then on, I fell in love with the craft. At first, I wasn’t the most confident, but over time, I grew into myself—both in skill and self-assurance.
It wasn’t until 2022 that I truly defined what I wanted from modeling. I began submitting to casting calls, building my portfolio, collaborating with brands, working with major artists and creatives, and even landing a spot on a Times Square billboard. I accomplished so much independently as a freelance model, but I knew I wanted to take things to the next level.
That’s what led me to Miami. I moved here with the goal of expanding my network and immersing myself in a new modeling scene. So far, it’s been an amazing experience—I’ve connected with incredible creatives and worked on some exciting projects. I’m proud of how far I’ve come, but I know this is just the beginning. I’m even more excited for what’s ahead.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Becoming a model has definitely been quite the journey, full of ups and downs. One of the biggest struggles for me was figuring out the type of model I wanted to be and ensuring I connected with the right people. When I first started posting my portfolio and introducing myself as a model, I was getting offers to work with all kinds of photographers. Early on, I didn’t know any better, so I worked with almost anyone. But I quickly learned that quality matters, how you want to be perceived matters, and who you work with matters. Another challenge was trying to make modeling my full-time career. Until you’re landing major projects, it’s not always enough to cover the bills. So, there’s this middle ground of needing a job that supports your dreams, but also staying focused on making time for those dreams. As a freelance model, it’s even harder without someone advocating for you. But my next step is signing with an agency, and that’s happening very soon—I’m claiming it!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a model specializing in fashion, beauty, and lifestyle, with a passion for creating captivating and authentic imagery. What I’m known for is my versatility in front of the camera—whether it’s high fashion, commercial, or editorial shoots, I bring a unique energy to every project. My modeling journey has been all about growth and staying true to my vision, and I’m most proud of how far I’ve come as a freelance model. From building my portfolio to working with amazing photographers, I’ve worked hard to refine my craft and create the kind of work I’m truly proud of. What sets me apart from others is my willingness to step outside of my comfort zone and connect with the camera and bring emotion to every shot. I’m not just posing; I’m telling a story, and that’s what makes my work stand out.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
I’d love to share that my journey as a model is just the beginning. I’m not only focused on growing my modeling career but also on using my platform to inspire others, especially women, to feel confident in their own skin and chase their dreams fearlessly. I’m passionate about building a legacy that not only impacts the fashion and beauty industries but also empowers communities, particularly Black communities, to thrive. I believe in the power of hard work, perseverance, and staying true to yourself, and I hope to continue using my journey to motivate others to pursue their goals, no matter the obstacles. Thank you for letting me share my story, and I can’t wait to see where this journey takes me next!
