Life & Work with Luis Perez of Miami

Today we’d like to introduce you to Luis Perez

Hi Luis, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Stellus was created with Luis Perez (lead singer/rhythm guitarist) attempting to create his own indie pop/rock music that he would make in his bedroom during the start of Covid.

About a year had passed by & in April of 2021, the debut release of “THENEWYOU” had come out. Six months later, Luis started to become more interested in being involved with the local Miami music scene where there were plenty of other great bands playing music of similar and different genres. After experiencing his first local show, the search for his own bandmates to perform live was now in progress.

On February 12, 2022, Stellus had their first appearance & it was terrifying yet exciting.
Through a total of about two years, he spent his time consistently performing with his bandmates between Miami & Orlando. Unfortunately, there were disagreements following up with a progressive falling out of the original band members. Two years in & after performing over 40 shows; the drive to create, give, & overall to become a good role model for people who may feel inspired grew. Two years in & this all still feels like this is still just the beginning.

2024 was the year I wanted to do new things that felt bigger & beyond what I could normally handle by myself. The debut EP was released on May 31st, 2024. Not long after, I met who is currently the drummer for Stellus, Frank Fernandez. He was originally just a fan but I saw how much he cared as well how much drive and potential he has. Not too long afterwards, we met Louis Ibarra or “Cricket” (stage name) who also showed the same character traits. Bonding among the three of us, I currently feel they may possibly be my missing piece to make Stellus even more meaningful & fun throughout the journey. If i didn’t make the decisions I did as I was learning new things about how to do music & manage a band, then I wouldn’t have met them.

Right now they are some of the most important people I know. We are currently in the works of creating the debut album & are excited to show everyone of what’s next to come.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. From having to learn how to use music software for creating, finding ways to make money for more equipment, and having to learn how to manage a band along with yourself is the hardest one of the hardest struggles.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work isn’t necessarily about being just a musician. I have to learn to adapt to learning multiple skills to be able to present Stellus as something more than about music. I am particulary proud of how far I’ve been able to develop Stellus into what it is today. But I think what may set us apart from others is the message, what Stellus stands for, again, other than just the music.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Being able to perform for the crowds who really let loose to enjoy our music. Especially for the one’s who already know our songs & scream the lyrics of the songs back at us. Personally, there is nothing like it. Best feeling ever.
