Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Alexis Clare
Hi Tiffany Alexis , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all started with imagination. As an only child, I often dreamed up all kinds of worlds and characters that would bring me so much joy, I could spend majority of my days in imagination land. So, once I ended up in my first extracurricular theatre class in elementary school, acting became all I could think about. I loved learning and memorizing new material, studying to become different characters, and playing with my voice and bodily movements to embody a moment in time. Acting and performing arts became the focus through all of my schooling. In middle school, I had an amazing theatre instructor who taught me stage presence and the art of putting on a show. In high school, I attended the magnet program for Musical Theatre/Drama at Michael M. Krop senior high under the direction of Ms. K. Stewartson. I’m the most grateful to Ms. Stewartson. She gave me all the classical tools and believed in my potential as an actress. Then, once I continued my training in California, to obtain a Bachelors of Fine arts in Acting for Film from the New York Film Academy, I was more than ready, confident, and understanding of the risks to pursue my dreams in becoming an actress. I have been fortunate to have parents who supported my pursuing my dream as well. However, I’ve definitely heard from many corners of the earth “You should study something more practical” or even the classic “You need a real job”. But that won’t ever stop me. Since I’ve been back home, I’ve deeply enjoyed spending my time training at the Villain Theatre and being apart of many other fun projects that have come along.
As I reflect now a days, I have so much gratitude for the amazing opportunities I’ve had to be a performer. Growing up, it was singing for community events in N.M.B. or being awarded in local theatre competitions. During my time spent time in California, it was opportunities like producing music videos, acting in commercials and tv shows, working on the Sony lot as a coordinator, and understanding the ins and outs of “Hollywood” industry. Since I’ve returned home in beautiful Dade County, It’s been tapping into some these incredible artistic communities like Black Swamp Cinema, Context of a Generation, Erace the Hate, and Seven’s Art Collective to name a few. This year I’ve done music videos, short films, ad promos, photo shoot after photo shoot, shows, figure modeling gigs, and I know it’s only up from here. With the support, love, and artistic energy of the people that believe in me, I’m able to circumvent any challenge to the simple idea of me following my dreams. My family and friends have helped me stay grounded, connected, creative, and hopeful. Plus, my mother removed the word “can’t” from my vocabulary at a very young age, so I’ve always seen my aspirations and wants as something directly aligned with every reality I choose.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road definitely hasn’t been smooth. As creatives and artists, there’s a lot of vulnerability in what we do. So when we’re not dealing with the burden of being an independent contractor, working off Net30 checks and “credits” as a form of payment, we are grappling with things like imposter syndrome, the ever expanding rate of technology, and life itself. I’ve had some pretty tough days pursuing a career as an actor/performer. Not only do I put myself on display for blatant criticism, I also have to figure a way to market, manage, and promote my art and myself on a superficial yet deep level. It’s all quite overwhelming really.
One of my biggest challenges became the ever evolving nature of the industry. The introduction of social media and content creation pushed my understanding of what all falls under the category of being a performer. At first, I was bitter. I payed all this money and spent years of schooling to walk into an audition and be asked how many followers I had on instagram. When I realized that was just the new name of the game, I spent a few years really refining and redefining what it meant to me to follow my dreams and engage in all facets my artistic tool box.
Nowadays, I do my best to limit my obstacles by expanding my knowledge and community. Often, obstacles like funding and available resources can limit, or postpone the amount of films and creative projects I’m able to release within that year. However, I find that expanding my community really helps to fill in those gaps. I’ve come to see all challenges and obstacles as a constant in life, especially when you’re aiming to live the life you’ve always wanted. To do so, we have to stay healthy and hopeful.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I love to think of myself as a multifaceted artist because I jump around through so many different mediums, it’s hard to fit it all within my elevator pitch ya know? My speciality is acting; That’s my true love. I’m also a singer/songwriter and poet under artist name “Clarevoyant”. As a shameless plug you can find me on all major streaming platforms.
I’m also a filmmaker with specialties in screen writing and producing. I model from time to time to as a live figure model and for photoshoot concepts. And next year, I’ll be starting a podcast on love called Tea with Tiff. So the art is in abundance! You can find most of my works across my website, IMDB, instagram, and Vimeo.
I’m most known for my performances across the stage and film. In Miami, I’ve been fortunate enough to create a presence among the very special performers in the improv world and in the black Indie film communities. This year I’m most proud of my 2017 film “Prego”, an award winning LGBTQ comedy, that I wrote, produced, and acted in. I’ve been incredibly grateful for the peer to peer feedback and every time I show my film, it reminds me that I’m doing everything set out to do. And that, helps fight off some of the nerves and imposter syndrome behind being an artist in the first place.
Something that definitely sets me apart from others, is my open heart personality. Love is a thread and common theme within every one of my works. I would also say, it’s never knowing what I’m going to do next! One month I’ll release a film, the next, a commercial, and the next, I’m performing in a show with Lyric the Poet and recording songs like “Chickpeas and Oyster Mushrooms” with the beautiful Marlo Vashti (which is another very proud moment for 2024). To create and perform in these spaces have been a blessing and an incredible contribution to my professional life and career.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Honestly, just two things, “It takes a village” and “Do it”.
It takes a village : Your community is a reflection of yourself. Surround yourself with people who love you, inspire you, support you, hold you accountable, and enable you to grow not just professionally but personally too. Art is a collaborative medium. You can be incredibly talented, but no one cares if you’re a jerk. Take pride and honor in the people you build.
Do it: This one is more for my over thinkers. I’m shouting “DO IT” Not the Nike ad but the kermit the frog meme. If it’s your heart’s desire? Go for it! The literal only thing thats stopping you is yourself. Don’t second guess how amazing your journey will be. Take the leap, have the faith, and sometimes it’s perfectly fine to “do” before you “think”.
