Hi Dayhana , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m Dr. Peña Santiago, and I’ve always been drawn to building connections and serving others, which naturally led me to a career in healthcare. I started my journey with a deep passion for medicine and a vision of creating a practice that went beyond just treating patients. I wanted to create a space that fosters lifelong relationships and promotes wellness in every sense.
After completing my medical training, I worked in various healthcare settings but realized there was often a gap in personalized, patient-centered care. That’s when I decided to open Proper Health & Wellness in July 2024, right here in Pembroke Pines, Florida. The goal was simple: to provide compassionate, high-quality care that empowers patients to take control of their health while feeling supported every step of the way.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey hasn’t been easy, but challenges have taught me to grow. Starting Proper Health & Wellness and expanding into medspa services took a leap of faith. Transitioning from working in established healthcare systems to building my own practice from scratch meant every decision was on my shoulders, from finding the right location to assembling a great team.
Balancing life as a wife, mom of two under two, and entrepreneur has been tough, but my family has been my biggest support. My husband and kids are my “why”. I’m also incredibly grateful for the support of our patients, many of whom have become like family, encouraging and motivating me every step of the way.
We’ve been impressed with Proper Health And Wellness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Proper Health & Wellness, we’re all about empowering our patients to feel their best, both inside and out. As a primary care practice and medspa in Pembroke Pines, Florida, we combine compassionate healthcare with innovative aesthetic services to support overall wellness.
Our primary care services focus on personalized, preventative care. Whether it’s routine checkups, managing chronic conditions, or specialized services like preoperative exams and immigration medical exams, we’re here to meet the diverse needs of our community.
In addition to healthcare, our medspa offers a wide range of aesthetic treatments, including Botox, fillers, IV therapy, medical weight loss, Morpheus 8, PRP, microneedling, and more. What sets us apart is our commitment to safety and quality. We only use FDA-approved materials and the latest technologies to ensure our clients feel confident and secure.
What I’m most proud of is the trust and loyalty we’ve built with our patients. Many of them describe us as family, and that’s exactly the kind of environment we strive for—a place where you feel cared for and valued.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Leaving the security of working in established healthcare systems with benefits and guaranteed salary to build my practice from scratch required stepping into the unknown. It wasn’t just a professional risk but a personal one as well, balancing this leap while raising two young children and navigating the challenges of entrepreneurship.
One specific risk was expanding into medspa services early in the growth of my practice. It meant investing in advanced technologies like Morpheus 8 and other aesthetic treatments, as well as building a brand in a highly competitive space. But I believed in the vision of offering a space where patients could focus on both their health and confidence, and that belief has paid off.
