Today we’d like to introduce you to Gus Gomez
Gus, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in the Dominican Republic and was raised in New York City Washington Heights to be exact. I started as a DJ 8 years ago as a strictly hip hop and reggae DJ then transitioned in to latin music thanks to my brother who’s also a dj. I have worked for a couple of major radio stations including La mega and currently my One-Hour radio/Podcast show can be heard on Heart Radio. as a DJ I have performed all over the United
States including Las Vegas, Boston, New York, Washington DC, Miami, Atlanta as well
as major countries including my native Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and
Mexico to name a few. My
weekly music Podcast/Radio show has thousands of weekly listener and sponsors like
Buchanan’s Johnny Walker, and Tune In radio. I try to handle myself well on both
the Turntables as well as on the microphone working the room from intimate bars
and lounges to big club venues. While now I’m more known for latin music mixes
I can also play anything from Hip Hop to House and everything in between.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never a smooth road in my opinion you have to grind and hustle everyday to get out there, There’s a new DJ
coming into the scene everyday and times are changing you have to adapt to the times which it’s not easy. Everyday I do homework on what’s working and not working. Updating my music library and just making sure I update what worked and didn’t work the night before. When you gotta please thousands of different people all with different personalities and different taste, you definitely have to grind. But when you love what you do it’s not really work it’s passion.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What I’m most proud of is to be able to take care of my family through my art. Knowing that I can do what I love music and get paid for it.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think that would be my work ethic, I love what I do therefore I treat it as such, Never late always on time always respect my peers and always try to please my customers in this case the crowd. I want you to have the best night when I’m on the turntables.
