Here’s a revised, vibrant take on your story:

Hi! I’m Mateo SeZa. It’s funny how the early days of any journey can feel like looking back through foggy glass—details shift, memories reshape, but some moments stand out like beacons. For me, that spark ignited back in 2nd grade, in a sunny Art class where my teacher’s passion seemed to bring colors to life right before our eyes. From that moment on, curiosity became my guiding light.

Growing up, I tried my hand at everything: music, drawing, painting, even theater. But it was in high school when photography called out to me like nothing else. Working at a local restaurant, I saved every tip, bought my first camera, and felt the world open up through a lens. In college, two discoveries solidified my path: the darkroom and dance. The darkroom taught me the profound patience that photography demands; it made me fall in love with light itself. And dance—it showed me the bold, boundless beauty of human expression, urging me to capture that energy frame by frame.

Today, I describe my work as “A Dance Between Light & Geometry.” It’s a fitting phrase because, for me, photography is a conversation—a way to explore shapes, shadows, and the hidden stories they tell.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The path to any meaningful goal is never smooth, and that’s exactly where its magic lies. The twists, bumps, and unexpected turns aren’t setbacks—they’re the moments that define us, giving us resilience and depth. I’ve come to believe that we’re not just walking this road; we’re shaping it with every step, leaving marks that tell our unique story.

As the firstborn in my family, I’ve often been the first to venture into uncharted territory. It hasn’t always been easy, but these challenges have been invaluable teachers. They taught me that failure isn’t the end; it’s the beginning of something greater. It’s proof that we’re out there, trying, stretching, and growing. If we want to be truly good at something, we first have to be willing to be bad at it. It takes courage to keep moving forward when things don’t go as planned, but that’s exactly where growth begins.

When self-doubt sneaks in, I take a step back, shift perspective, and reflect. I’ve learned to find strength in solitude, where I reconnect with myself and remember why I started. I’ve seen that if we embrace our experiences—failures and all—we can discover an untapped potential we didn’t know was there. I’d say to anyone reading this: trust the process, embrace the bumps, and believe in yourself enough to keep pushing. Every stumble brings you closer to the vision you hold for yourself.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
SeZa Studios is my creative sanctuary, a brand born from my belief that light is its own language—one I capture, shape, and use to tell stories that go beyond words. My muse is geometry; through it, I interpret the world, seeing patterns and shapes in everything from architecture to the natural form of the human body. My work invites viewers to see themselves and their surroundings with fresh eyes, uncovering beauty and meaning in the familiar.

I specialize in photography that evokes self-awareness, ambiguity, and contrast. My images often spark curiosity; viewers recognize the human body but sometimes find themselves questioning which part they’re seeing. This intentional ambiguity, this exploration of the body as sculptural form, is my way of highlighting how universal and interconnected we all are. No matter our backgrounds, we share a common physical language, one that I hope will encourage others to embrace the beauty within themselves and in their surroundings.

Through SeZa Studios, I offer framed, ready-to-hang prints that aim to bring this sense of wonder and connection into people’s lives. These pieces aren’t just decorative—they’re intended to bring positive energy, depth, and warmth into the spaces they inhabit. In a world that can often feel complex, my art is a reminder to pause, reflect, and appreciate the beauty that’s always there, waiting to be noticed. This is why I create: to invite people to see beyond the surface and celebrate what makes us all beautifully human.

Ultimately, I want my photographs to serve as a daily reminder that beauty and resilience are everywhere, including within us. My hope is that anyone who connects with my work can use it to spark reflection, conversation, and an appreciation for the intricate, beautiful world we all share.

We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The Covid-19 crisis reaffirmed something that I deeply believe: humanity is interconnected in ways far beyond what we often acknowledge. Across every corner of the globe, regardless of background, beliefs, or bank balances, we all shared this experience, felt the uncertainty, and recognized the fragility of life. For me, this realization strengthened my commitment to portraying this interconnectedness in my work—capturing the essence of human experience that transcends individuality, echoing the patterns and shapes that bind us.

Covid-19 also reframed my understanding of gratitude. It reminded me to prioritize what truly matters: health, family, and the simple moments we often take for granted. The pandemic emphasized the importance of caring for ourselves, both physically and mentally, and that these personal actions have a ripple effect on the collective well-being of others. As an artist, this shift in perspective became a powerful muse, inspiring me to explore how each individual is a vital part of the larger whole. I aim to reflect this in my work by portraying the human body and spirit as shared, sculptural forms—an expression of the unity that connects us all.

In every piece I create, I advocate for the beauty of human connection, the strength in our shared experiences, and the importance of lifting each other up. This experience reinforced my dedication to art that celebrates the human condition and reminds us that, ultimately, we’re far more alike than we are different.
