Today we’d like to introduce you to Jameka Lubin
Hi Jameka, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My leap into entrepreneurship started at such a young age. I remember trying so many different businesses, selling jewelry, clothing, crafting pillows, you name it. However, my real success came from following my passion, hair! In 2014, I graduated Cosmetology school and instead of working in a traditional salon, for someone else, I became an independent contractor, rented a booth and worked for myself. I maintained a 9-5 and did hair but almost two years in, I was terminated from my job. This is where it all began.
Imagine being on a job for 10 years and then boom, that stability is snatched from you, no warning, no heads up. Things got real, the hustle got real! My “side gig” was now the main attraction and I had to find everything in me to give it all I had. I sat down, refocused, devised a new plan and set out on a new mission. I not only “did hair” but I learned strategic ways to double my profits by incorporating assistants, increasing sales, and introducing products. I went from part time hair to literally no days off. I went from booth renter in a hair store to beauty business suites. I went from being hurt by the termination to living my dream and becoming my own boss, a real boss, living life on her own terms. God already had the plan, I just needed to trust the process.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road but its been a road worth traveling. I remember the days trying to work a job that consumed me, leaving little room for anything else including my family and a business. I missed precious, irreplaceable moments during the most important years of my oldest son’s life. That pain was my wake-up call, my turning point. Once I realized the power I held to shape my own life, I promised myself I’d never let anyone or anything take that from me again.
I don’t really like to use the word “struggle” but some of my challenges after starting my business—most notably, were my own fears and doubts. Despite carefully planning every detail of my business, from its structure to its expansion, and feeling equipped to handle challenges like financial management, client acquisition, retention, competition, scaling, etc., I still found myself trapped by a “worst-case scenario mindset”. Eventually that led to little to no confidence, both in myself and in my business. As a result, I made decisions that strayed from my vision and ultimately led to a halt in operations and delayed the launch of my product line.
However, those moments of difficulty became invaluable lessons in resilience, self-trust, and the importance of persistence. Through this journey, I’ve grown into a leader who embraces challenges as opportunities to evolve. Those obstacles became some of my greatest teachers. They forced me to develop self-awareness, appreciation and to work smarter, live fully, and cherish every moment with the people who matter most. I also learned the value of balance, freedom, and truly owning my time. Each challenge was a stepping stone, shaping me into the business woman I am today, more determined than ever to stay aligned with my purpose and vision. As I like to remind myself, “Like a seed in the soil, I just haven’t grown yet. The power I hold, I don’t even know yet. To lead is my purpose; I am certain of this.” – Jameka

My vision behind Bellature Beauty Bar came after working in the field for 5 years. As a young entrepreneur, I eagerly wanted to continue to grow and make my mark in the beauty industry. I established Bellature Beauty Bar in 2018, offering a range of high-quality beauty services, specializing in hair extensions, natural hair care, lace installations, sew-ins, and other trendy techniques. I also birthed Bellature Beauty Collections, a line of premium beauty products, that include but are not limited to edge control, lace glue, styling mousse, and a wax stick. A product line designed specifically for women and girls, offering solutions suitable for all hair types.
This year, I decided to rebrand my product line with the hopes of eventually getting them into stores worldwide. As of today, they can be found in four local beauty supply stores in West Palm Beach, Florida, with more locations coming soon. They can also be found on my company site, bellaturebeautybar.com and Walmart.com. My beauty bar has also been nominated in the “Best Beauty Bar/Cosmetic Store” category for the Palm Beach Post Community’s Choice Awards Program 2025 here in Palm Beach County. Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Following my dreams and taking that leap of faith has been the most liberating and fulfilling decision I’ve ever made. It’s not always easy, but stepping into the unknown has opened doors I never imagined and brought a joy I can’t even put into words. Pursuing what truly sets my soul on fire has made me feel more alive, more connected, and more in tune with my purpose. It’s a reminder that chasing your passion isn’t just worth it—it’s life-changing. Every morning, I wake up with a sense of freedom and gratitude because I get to do what I love. The ability to live life on my own terms is a gift I’ll never take for granted. If I decide to clear my schedule to recharge or catch a spontaneous flight with my family, I can—no explanations, no permissions, just living life by my own design, my accord.
