Life & Work with Eric Ginsburg of Miami Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Ginsburg

Hi Eric, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In college, I took a painting class that set me on a journey I could never have imagined. I was fortunate to have people who supported and guided me along the way, and their encouragement helped me develop my voice as an artist and I never stoped

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Along the way, I’ve been lucky to have support from incredible mentors and friends. However, the road has been far from smooth. I’ve faced rejection, struggled with addiction, and dealt with mental illness—challenges that have affected both my ability to create and my work as a show organizer.

Despite these obstacles, I’ve found profound meaning in painting animals, especially dogs and cats.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a contemporary artist specializing in soulful and expressive portraits of animals, particularly dogs and cats. For over 20 years, my work has focused on capturing the unique personalities and emotions of these creatures. I often say, “Look into the eyes of dogs and cats—they love you no matter what.” This philosophy drives my art, creating connections that resonate deeply with viewers.

I’m best known for my painterly, emotive style, which Roberta Smith of The New York Times once praised, writing, “There are cat portraits from Eric Ginsburg, a painter of dogs who may be even better on the other side of the aisle.” My paintings are featured in public and private collections worldwide, including the Herb & Dorothy Vogel Collection at the National Gallery of Art, the Corrie Ten Boom Museum, and the LeWitt Collection.

What sets me apart is the emotional depth in my work and my commitment to celebrating the bond between humans and animals. Beyond my art, I’m the founder and co-director of Fridge Art Fair, an inclusive platform that highlights both emerging and established artists. I’m proud of how Fridge creates accessible opportunities for artists to showcase their work and connect with audiences in unique ways.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can support my work in many ways—by purchasing my artwork, attending my shows, or becoming part of the incredible creative community at Fridge Art Fair. Fridge has grown into a collaborative effort, bringing together artists who support and inspire one another. It’s a platform where creators can showcase their art, whether they’re emerging, underrepresented, or simply seeking an amazing space to create and connect.

Fridge Art Fair is special because it offers a venue to those who may not have the means to participate in larger, more expensive art fairs. It’s about accessibility, creativity, and community. We currently host fairs in Miami every December and in New York City every May, which is where Fridge first started—and where my own journey as an artist began.

Whether you want to collect art, collaborate, or simply celebrate creativity, Fridge is an open and welcoming space for everyone.
