Today we’d like to introduce you to Ed Rosas
Hi Ed, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m originally from Queens, NY, and for as long as I can remember, art has been an integral part of my life. I was fortunate to have teachers and loved ones who supported and encouraged me to pursue my passion for art. After graduating from LaGuardia High School in New York City, I moved to Miami to continue my studies, eventually earning an MFA from Florida Atlantic University. Now, I live in Miami, where I run my own freelance illustration business and teach as an adjunct art professor at several universities.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been an easy journey. I’ve faced the loss of my grandmother and father, nearly failed out of my master’s program, worked countless tough jobs, and struggled with overwhelming self-doubt. Yet, every time I was tempted to abandon art for a more practical path, I always returned to what I truly love—pursuing my passion for art.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a freelance illustrator and adjunct art professor based in Miami, specializing in bold black-and-white crosshatched artwork. My work is known for its emotional depth and its ability to connect with people by exploring universal human experiences. I focus on storytelling through illustration. I’ve had the opportunity to work with a wide range of clients, from musicians and MMA gyms to children’s book authors and NFT projects.
What sets me apart is my ability to bring empathy and introspection into my art, creating pieces that resonate on a deeper level. I’m most proud of the diverse range of projects I’ve taken on, from mural designs to editorial work, and how I’ve built my freelance business from the ground up while also teaching the next generation of artists.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Put God first in everything you do. See your talents as gifts from Him, and like Jesus, use them to serve your community. That’s where you’ll discover true fulfillment. Remember, the rejection you face—past and future—is an opportunity for growth and becoming a better person. Trust that every challenge is part of a greater plan guiding you toward your purpose.
