Hidden Gems: Meet Gordana Zgonjanin of ZEEL Studio & D’PUGLIA

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gordana Zgonjanin

Hi Gordana, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey into the world of culture, creativity, and strategic innovation has been anything but conventional. Driven by my passion for self-expression, cultural storytelling, and immersive art experiences, I embarked on a path that is as global and nuanced as my creative vision. My career took shape through collaborations working in and exhibiting in international art fairs, cultural organizations, galleries, and brands, allowing me to merge strategic thinking with my unique, nomadic perspective.

A pivotal moment came when I decided to immerse myself in diverse cultures, fundamentally reshaping my approach to art and design. This journey led me to establish ZEEL Studio, a creative studio where the practical meets the impractical. Here, I create transformative projects that harmoniously blend art, design, and culture. Through ZEEL Studio, my zeal for innovation and ability to decode cultural trends have empowered me to bring powerful, cross-functional teams together, elevating brands with unique, thoughtfully curated experiences.

Currently also the founder and creative force behind D’Puglia, I’m reshaping how we engage with cultural heritage. D’Puglia is more than a cultural initiative; it’s a curated platform inviting designers, artists, strategists, and brands to engage in Puglia’s rich heritage while embracing innovation. Through captivating showcases, dynamic events, and thought-provoking dialogues, D’Puglia positions Puglia as a beacon of tradition and forward-thinking—a region where creativity, sustainability, and history meet.

D’Puglia’s ethos is rooted in the strength, grace, boldness, and sensuality of Puglia’s heritage. Here, I encourage all to “go where the wind takes you,” to be bold embracing the power of creativity, art and design as a bridge between the old and the new, the local and the global. With each project, I am to reinterpret the essence of magic and the power of place inviting a worldwide community to celebrate this journey.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely, it’s been one hell of a ride! Born in the Balkans, moved with family to US as a refugee age 10.. Later in mid late 20’s decided to say adios to Miami head to Barcelona not knowing anything and a challenge of 400$ in my pocket..It was my way of testing myself and capabilities as a thank you to my parents immigrating literally with 400$ a suitcase and 2 little kids not knowing the language or anything. The road hasn’t been smooth—life has thrown its fair share of challenges my way, a whirlwind of events that felt like a never-ending storm. Yet, through it all, I’ve always chosen to push through by fully immersing myself in whatever idea felt right. Which brought me to a decision to hit the road again and head to Puglia fully whole heartedly with every cell in my body I followed what I call magic! the weird feeling in my belly…..It wasn’t always about what seemed right in my head or heart; it was about what resonated deeply with my core. I never took my obstacles in a negative way… I convert them into adventures… it’s my natural response …survival of the fittest…fittest mind! 😉

To this day, every “no” I encounter only fuels the fire within me, making it larger and igniting my enthusiasm. Each time someone tells me, “Gordana, this isn’t possible,” or “You’re crazy,” or “You’re delusional; that’s not how it’s done,” my creativity explodes like fireworks! Those comments drive me to prove that the unconventional path is often the most rewarding one.

Sleepless nights, extensive travels, and countless adventures have been part of my journey, but somehow, I always manage to find a way. These struggles haven’t defined me; they’ve empowered me to create, innovate, and rise to the occasion. Each challenge has shaped who I am today, and I wouldn’t trade that for any form of comfort.

We’ve been impressed with ZEEL Studio & D’PUGLIA, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At ZEEL Studio, we take pride in our imperfectly perfect, multifaceted approach to creative direction, art, and design. Our zealous dedication to collaboration with art, design, and culture takes center stage as we create and produce projects that transcend traditional boundaries. We specialize in crafting memorable and engaging experiences through exhibitions, international art and design fairs, trade shows, high-profile events, and unique collaborations.

What sets us apart is our ability to merge creativity with strategic thinking. We focus on aligning objectives with effective strategies to drive revenue and business growth for our clients. Our proactive and adaptable team thrives in fast-paced environments, whether remote or in-person, enabling us to tackle new challenges with unwavering insight.

At the heart of ZEEL Studio is a passion for art and culture that knows no bounds. We welcome everyone—from individuals and start-ups to established businesses—providing a creative haven that helps bring their visions to life. We embrace imperfections and transform them into masterpieces, making every project a journey of limitless possibilities.

One of the aspects I’m most proud of is our work with D’Puglia, an international cultural initiative that celebrates the rich heritage of Puglia. D’Puglia positions itself as a beacon of innovation and tradition, inviting a global community of visionaries—strategists, designers, architects, and artists—to engage in a unique cultural exchange. Through captivating events, impactful galas, and art exchanges, we foster a culture of innovation and preservation, highlighting Puglia’s dedication to artistic excellence and sustainable practices.

This year, during Art Basel Week at The Standard Miami, D’Puglia will host a series of events from December 1 to 8, including our Kick-Off Garden Party featuring the debut of the “Flags for Future” exhibition. This installation, co-curated by UTÖPIA and ’74, showcases upcycled flags created by renowned artists, symbolizing unity, transformation, and environmental responsibility under the theme “Va’ dove ti porta il vento” (Go where the wind takes you). We’ll also specially feature Antonio Aricò for an immersive presentation of his Magna Grecia collection, created in collaboration with Seletti. This installation merges ancient craftsmanship with contemporary design inspired by the ancient Greek colonies of southern Italy. Aricò will also perform live painting on limited-edition canvas bags, available to first-come, first-served guests. The event is open to the public.

We also have the D’Puglia Dialogues, where leading voices in art, design, and culture will discuss themes like the power of Puglia’s landscapes and sustainable creativity.A collaborative charity dinner, emphasizing our commitment to environmental conservation.

At both ZEEL Studio and D’Puglia, we aim to create a network of pioneers and disruptors celebrating the intersection of art, culture, and community. We invite readers to join us on this journey of creativity and exploration, where each project embodies our ethos of embracing imperfection and championing innovation.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Finding a mentor or networking? Honestly, I think the key is to just follow your gut. It all starts with conquering yourself and that initial fear of your own truth. You know that weird feeling in your stomach? It might feel odd, but once you push through it, you’ll start to tune into what really feels right for you.

These days, a lot of us are so overwhelmed by outside noise -If you can’t even listen to yourself, how can you listen to anyone else?

When it comes to networking, I’m all about being real, with 0 filter! Be yourself and you’ll naturally draw in people who add to your life experience. Go to events that light you up, whether it’s art shows, workshops, or community gatherings, and you’ll meet folks who share your passions but don’t get too comfortable – go to places and gatherings that challenge you …. don’t fall for kids play..”oh that’s not my scene lingo” go where you have absolutely no clue of what’s going on and go alone… push yourself to be.. what I call the 007… Adapt but always stay solid in your character—that’s the true warrior way.Don’t mistaken personality for character … personalities are dynamic fun always changing but character stays firm at all times…so as long as you follow that .. the right doors will always open!

Also t’s not just about finding one mentor; it’s about building a circle of people who inspire and challenge you. Trust your instincts, and don’t hesitate to reach out to those who get you fired up. And never be afraid to ask questions!
