Hi Karym, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m Karym Benitez, the creator and owner of Holi Nails. My love for nails started in childhood, during cherished trips to the nail salon with my mother. Those moments together, surrounded by vibrant colors and the art of nail design, left a lasting impression on me. I still remember the excitement of receiving my first nail kit—it sparked a dream that would stay with me.
Back then, I would paint my own nails at home, all the while dreaming of one day opening my own nail studio. Achieving that dream took years of planning, saving, and hard work. Before launching Holi Nails, I spent a decade in the hospitality industry, gaining valuable experience in customer service and management that prepared me for this journey.
Today, I’m incredibly grateful for the talented team by my side and the supportive community that embraces Holi Nails. To everyone who believes in healthier beauty routines and supports vegan, cruelty-free products, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Let’s continue growing together to create a kinder, more beautiful world.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely it has not been an easy journey, but it has not been impossible either. I believe we “humans” are capable of creating our own life, future, destiny or however we would like to call it. We have the mental power of manifesting our deepest dreams, goals, and desires. Then we need to create a plan on how we are going to work towards these dreams and make it a reality.
From my experience the most challenging aspect of running a business is keeping up with social media content creation, keeping our followers entertained and motivated. Marketing is another challenge I encounter as a small business owner, being able to find the right advertising channel without spending thousands of dollars.
We’ve been impressed with Holi Nails , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a full service beauty studio using vegan non-toxic, cruelty-free nail polish, specializing in Japanese gel which promotes and supports healthy natural nails. We offer nail systems including builder gel, hard gel, polygel, Gel X and nail art. Our talented professionals are passionate for their craft, by always delivering a service of excellence, care, and love.
We also offer holistic facials, derma-planing, hydrofacials, buccal massages, and waxing. Our skin care products are eco-friendly, hypoallergenic, organic, free of fillers, & carcinogenic free.
What set us apart is the high quality of the products we use, we focus on the nail care and integrity of having healthy nails. We use nail polish brands that are vegan, non toxic, cruelty free nail polish. Also, coming to Holi Nails is having an experience of relaxation, tranquility, self-love, being pampered and loved.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
yes! this is a big one: If you are looking to lease a location make sure to analyze the market to make sure is your target market, before signing a contract hire an attorney to go over lease terms, if you need to do construction or remodel bring a contractor first to give you a cost for build out, ask about annual rent increase rate, and negotiate listing price, ask for “free rent” for the months you will be doing construction.
