Daily Inspiration: Meet Lydia Liscom

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lydia Liscom

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Unconventional – This is the word that describes my entrepreneurial journey that has taken me to where I am today!

Looking back, my education and career path have been anything but typical. Picture nine children tagging along with their parents on work trips from New York to South Florida for months at a time. Not only did we all drive 20+ hours, but we also did our schoolwork on the road, and at resorts along the way. Being homeschooled and traveling with my parents and eight siblings developed my love for creativity and design. Eventually, moving to South Florida, I started my college journey here. I discovered the interior design industry through a family friend and I was hooked—obsessed! At this time, I was enrolled in a general transfer degree program with no interior design courses under my belt yet, but I knew that landing an early internship and gaining experience would make all the difference long term! I remember going door to door, emailing, and calling—trying everything to get a position at a design firm while at the very beginning of my college career. I received an overwhelming amount of: “We need someone with more design courses; stay connected when you’re further along in your education!” I was willing to work for FREE on the days I wasn’t working my part-time job and I wouldn’t take no for an answer. After connecting with many design firms in the area, I was offered an internship at a high-end residential firm. That opportunity ended up being my runway into an amazing career as a luxury interior designer. Working on multi-million-dollar homes and condominiums at such a young age gave me a huge leg up in my career!

After a few years and many successful interior design projects in South Florida, I was accepted into a top design program at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). After graduating with my Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design from SCAD, I worked multiple positions in both commercial & residential design, but always knew I wanted to have my own design firm! The opportunity presented itself at the beginning of this year, and I couldn’t have been more ready to take the leap! I built this company to be able to create the dream spaces my clients have worked so hard their whole lives to have! Not only do I want to change the lives of my clients, but I also want to support the careers of other young designers who started like me—with a love for design and a willingness to work hard to achieve big goals!

It has been almost a year since I started Lydia L Interiors and life as an entrepreneur has been extremely fulfilling! The company has been growing incredibly fast and has been working on a variety of high-end residences and condominiums across South Florida from Jupiter to Miami. I’m so excited for what the future holds and can’t believe I get to design happiness for my clients one space at a time!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course not, starting a business is never a smooth road! There are bumps along the way that present themselves daily, but when you love what you do, the obstacles become well worth it. It’s important to celebrate both the small and large challenges I have overcome and to appreciate the tremendous growth my design firm has made in it’s beginning years!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We create timeless spaces that are beautifully crafted for family and friends to come together and make lasting memories! We are a luxury interior design firm that designs projects from the initial concepts through the installation. Our design process starts with creating unique inspiration by fully listening and understanding the client’s vision for their project. We develop our designs through architectural drawings and 3D renderings to help visualize how the new design will look! Details, details, details…listening and really paying attention to all the small and large desires of what each client needs and wants is at the core of our company. Having a wide range of experience in various design styles, we work to make sure everything we design and select is perfect for each client!

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The most important quality any business owner can have to be successful is to genuinely care about how their work impacts the lives of their clients. Being able to build genuine relationships with my clients, vendors, & industry professionals has been the most important factor in the success of Lydia L Interiors.
